Third shave with this setup in a row and the soap sample shows no signs of abating any time soon. These little soap samples have staying power! I'm contemplating running with it until it's gone, but not sure if I can shave with the same gear for that long! The weekend is upon us and I should be off to Montreal tomorrow to visit some friends. Have a great weekend, SOTD Brothers!

I didn't have time to post yesterdays shave, but it was so good I thought I'd put it up today.
Prep: Hot Shower+Lather
Brush: VDH
Bowl/Mug: VDH/ Vintage Amole Shaving Soap Mug (I think its from the 40s or 50s but I just found the date 1907 on the base of the mug, idk if that is the Est. date or when the mug was made. I think it would be pretty neat if it was that old.)
Soap/Cream: VDH/ ToOBS Eton College Shave Cream
Razor: 1946 Gillette Aristocrat
Blade: Fresh Derby
Post: Nivea for Men Post Shave Balm
I've been finding out how much of a difference a fresh blade makes for my shaves. Two days ago I used the same razor (the Aristocrat) and just did not get a good shave. I wasn't really sure why either, but I figured it had to be the blade, although I only had about 4 shaves with that blade (I was under the impression that they're supposed to last a bit longer than that, especially since I have very light beard growth). So I went ahead and put in a new blade yesterday, and the difference was very apparent, it just shaved so well. Inasmuch, the irratation that I am prone to on my neck (and that I always got with my multi-blade cartridge razor) was non-existent.
So I was really pleased with yesterday's shave.
congrats Seth

Have a Great Friday Gents!
Congrats on the newborn ZethLent!
Gentlemen, today's shave was sweet, using a combination of the straight and the double edge razors. The straight is one of my lighter razors that is easier to handle. It was the shave that mattered, really. The great composer Robert Schumann said, "The esthetic experience is the same in any art; only the materials differ."
Razor: Rudi Schaaf 6/8 round point
Razor: Edwin Jagger "Chatsworth" faux ivory
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock yellow
Brush: Semogue 620 boar
Soap: La Toja Manantiales
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes
Scuttle: Moss
Lather bowl: Ayars/Bonnyman
Alum
Witch hazel

Music: Flute sonatas by J.S. Bach
Finisher: A pot of Ethiopian Harrar coffee and a big serving of daydreams
Obie, did you know that I live 10 miles from Zwickau, where Robert Schumann was born?
There is an amazing museum in Zwickau and also a beautiful monument.
Robert Schumann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello Tom:
I have never been to Zwickau, although I would love to visit the Schumann museum. You're lucky to be so close. I love Schumann's music. He was the early master of early Romanticism. Some years ago I was in a saloon in Leipzig where Schumann used to hang out. I forget the name of the place. It's all paneled in wood. What a place. There's also an I.O.U from Richard Wager framed on the wall.
lol, Obie.
I never was in this restaurant but you, it's funny but I find it out.
It's quite a place, Tom. I think I must have consumed a keg of German beer there. I dare say that at the end of the night I was slightly elevated.
Prep: Hot Shower Razor: 9/16 Mandarin Hones: freshly honed on all the goodies Brush: 24mm Silvertip Uber: Cella + Tabac + 4 drops Glycerine AS: Alum Block + Lucky Tiger Edc: Brute Result: I have had this razor for almost a year, but it was never honed due to it's odd angle. I managed it yesterday. This shave was most gratifying simply because I finally accomplished getting it shave ready!

Again Sorry No Pic, Camera not working..Time for New camera....
Enjoying a nice 3 days off from work, So Today I had a Shave... I Resharpened My W&B Bow razor and did just as good as My Twinworks...
Prep = Hot Shower & Baby oil splash
Soap = Mama Bear's Cannabis & VDH
Brush = VDH Boar
Razor = W&B Bow
Mug = VDH small bowl
A/S = Wild Country
Music = Overture: The Marriage of Figaro By: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The W&B is a Nice razor and does a nice 2 pass shave, But I seem to like the J.A.Henckels Twin Works a little better. I may have to send My W&B out to be honed, or wait till Houston has another meeting and have it done... That is if I'm not working that Day...
I use my blades only twice; and I also have light growth. after the first use I dry the blade, wrap it back up in the wax paper and outer paper, and put it back in the little box with the new ones, but I put it back upside down so I know it's been used once. After the next shave with that blade, which is normally a week later on a Saturday, I throw the blade away. I only shave once a week with a DE, all the other shaves are with a straight, so a couple of packets (I use Astra) last for quite a while...
Semogue | Valobra | FON Golden Star Deluxe | Alum | Sabon Cream | Le Labo Rose 31

Jose, how do you like your Dovo Special? I have been practicing and building up my confidence with a cheap straight razor, but need to purchase a proper blade. Your Dovo was one of my first choices.
Ok well thats helpful, I just wasn't sure if my Derbys were wearing out prematurely. I shave every day, not because I have alot of growth but because the spots that dont grow in full look terrible if I let them grow out. My gotee can get fairly thick but my cheeks and neck grown in pretty patchy.

Saturday
DE day today. I love my Mühle R 89 but have been considering a vintage DE (again). I saw a couple on the Executive Shaving web page; one of them gold plated. I’d like an aggressive one, I think…
I used the ‘Wake up Rosemary’ shave soap sample I’d received from Scott (Mastershake). A very nice fellow, judging by his communication, and a very nice soap. It’s got a minty scent with undertones of Rosemary (to my nose). I like really strong scented soaps and creams, and for me, I’d like this a bit stronger. It lathers really well. I’m normally a cream, rather than a soap, person, so I’m not all that used to lathering soaps; it’s a different skill. Today’s attempt was better than the last two times, I’m getting used to adding more water. I did consider an Überlather with the Faulding’s ‘Shave’ cream, but I’d like to see me get this soap to ‘stand on its own’ first.
The Astra blade did well on its second use, and the Proraso Liquid Cream After Shave was exactly what was needed on a sunny Autumn morning before a walk in the forest…
(PS, I'm probably getting a little carried away with GIMP's filters :))
