I used to love range shoots when I was in the army. I preferred 'normal' range shoots rather than Surface to Air Missile practices, esp when I was promoted to Sergeant, as I had more control as a Safety Officer. We normally shot SLRs, 9mm Browning, 84mm Carl Gustaf, 66mm SRAAW, M60, a grenade launcher we called a 'Wombat Gun' (I can't remember its real name). Generally, the days started with PT at 6ish, followed by showers and breakfast, then on to the Unimogs, off to this range and that range, firing this and that weapon, a lot of waiting, hot box lunches, a lot of smoking. Then home to the tent lines, shower, hanging around, making cups of tea, talking, more smoking, maybe a run or some weights for fun, tea, then quite an amount of beer when the 'bar' opened (a gunner assigned to the eskys holding the beer; a dollar a can), more smoking, etc. I miss it, actually.

    Thursday
Prep: Hot Shower/ AOS preshave oil
    Brush: Thater 4125-2
    Scuttle: G5
Soap: Proraso/ Salter Vetiver/ glycerin Uber
    Razor: Wade&Butcher 13/16" Hollow Ground
Post: Proraso AS/ Nivea Lotion unscented
Result: This was one of THOSE shaves! You can feel it is going to be perfect from the moment the razor hits the skin. It felt like I was wiping the lather off with a butter knife...yep, it was that smooth! The lather was over the top both scent and performance and I would hope that all my SOTD brothers can have an experience this good! Off to work feeling like a million.

Thanks, Joe. It is new. My first go with a non-folding western style straight. The first shave was a bit akward as I just didn't know how I wanted to grip it. Today was BBS in two passes...
