    Wednesday

I was saddened today to hear of events in Syria. Saddened is possibly not the right word. In fact it isn’t, let’s call a spade a bloody f’n spade; I was angered. I was enraged. I was sickened. I took all that raging anger, rolled it in to a little, tiny, seething black ball inside myself and used it to fuel my workout when I got home. I mean, I hate to judge, really I do, but come on! Leave the kids alone! There’s NO excuse, none, none, NONE!

I want to live in a world we all thought existed when we were little kids, before life screwed us over and turned us all in to sarcastic self-centred individuals, escaping our dismay at the world by consoling ourselves with i-toys. No wonder the world has spawned Goths and Emos. I’d be one too if I was 16; I’d even wear black nail polish just to communicate my hate.

Anyway, to the shave. A really nice shave and the massive nick in my strop that I haven’t sanded out yet didn’t really seem to affect the razor at all. O Melhor was the cream and Floïd the after shave.

PS, sorry for the rant about world events but I just had to say it…I promise I’ll behave in the future…and please forgive the liberty I've taken at posting a poem...

    CHARD WHITLOW
    by Henry Reed
    (Mr. Eliot's Sunday Evening Postscript)

As we get older we do not get any younger.
Seasons return, and today I am fifty-five,
And this time last year I was fifty-four,
And this time next year I shall be sixty-two.
And I cannot say I should like (to speak for myself)
To see my time over again— if you can call it time:
Fidgeting uneasily under a draughty stair,
Or counting sleepless nights in the crowded Tube.

There are certain precautions— though none of them very reliable—
Against the blast from bombs and the flying splinter,
But not against the blast from heaven, vento dei venti,
    The wind within a wind unable to speak for wind;
And the frigid burnings of purgatory will not be touched
    By any emollient.
I think you will find this put,
Better than I could ever hope to express it,
In the words of Kharma: "It is, we believe,
Idle to hope that the simple stirrup-pump
    Will extinguish hell."
    Oh, listeners,
And you especially who have turned off the wireless,
And sit in Stoke or Basingstoke listening appreciatively to the silence,
(Which is also the silence of hell) pray not for your selves but your souls.
And pray for me also under the draughty stair.
As we get older we do not get any younger.

    Prep: Hot shower
    Brush: Polo 8 by Simpson
    Razor: De Pew
Soap: Nannys Ice and a slice (+small click of Proraso)
    AS: Blue Floid
    Strops: Neil Miller
    Result: Very, very clean

Scuttle and brush in the fridge for 20 minutes and I got a monkey of my back today - I finally had a go at a De Pew It was nice, but small and I think it needs to get sharper (I did a couple of laps on some CBN, but it's not enough, I think).

    ... and some:

This will probably be my last SOTD for the next couple of weeks because we leave tomorrow morning for Japan to visit the in-laws. I'll check in when I can, just to make sure Carl and the others are behaving. In the meantime, enjoy your little slice of ritualistic heaven each day!
