Thanked: 485A Wet Saturday Afternoon
Excellent shave. Excellent. Not perfect, but considering the trouble I had in the past with the edge of the De Pews, this was a truly great shave. Just eight laps on the Shapton just before the shave. I do three on one side with a ‘rocking’ stroke to one on the other. My logic, is that as the ‘rocking’ stroke is required due to the slightly warped blade; that each part of the edge doesn’t get the same contact on the hone; therefore it needs to be repeated on one side somewhat to compensate for this. Do you guys get what I mean? Do you think that’s logical? Do you do the same with a blade with a slight warp?
Anyway, I think ATG just on the upper part of my neck; towards the goatee is my test of a sharp blade and the De Pews performed just fine. I reckon I can still get a little more out of it on the Shapton, too.
The Mme Scodioli ‘Boheme’ soap smells superb. I must say I can’t QUITE get a cream-like lather; and I don’t seem to be able to emulate that first shave with this soap. The Mme Scodioli aftershave is a drug; I’m sure it is.
Music for the shave was Eddie Vedder’s Ukelele Songs, and now I’m listening to the audio book ‘Leaf, by Niggle’ by J R R Tolkien. A child’s story I know, but I like kids’ stories; I like the innocence, it’s relaxing and comforting.
I decided to use a dip pen I have, as something to do today. The J Herbin Café des Îles ink worked very well with it. This is a fine ink; but in a fountain pen just a little 'wet'. As you can see, I have no idea about calligraphy, but I may start to take it more seriously. I always use a fountain pen, so do have some idea of the inks I like. This particular dip pen; bought from an antique shop, is surprisingly easy to use. Initially I found it didn’t hold the ink well, but now I find I get quite a few words from one dip.
My grandson Bailey is staying tonight, and I’m going to set up the 8mm silent movie projector and play some old Black and White silent movies. I think maybe Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, The Mummy and Cops with Buster Keaton.
Thanks for the photos and conversation this week, guys. Be good, be healthy, be happy.
(sorry to be so indulgent with the long post)
Carl

Thank you. Max made them with a tapered photoluminesent wedge. Kinda cool as the wedge glows in the dark
Very cool pen and penmanship. I am always thank full that I grew up in the age of the ball point pen. As a left handed person, even with a ball point pen I always went home with ink on my hand from writing in school. I can't imagine how lwft handed people used pens like that without making a complete mess.
Love the movies as well. Enjoy.

Thanked: 485Just finished the movies now at 07:15; still early but now we all feel tired. Bailey was a bit scared during The Mummy; Boris Karlof would scare anyone. Leonardo sorted out the pen problem; mirror writing...
I wrote a lot more than that during the afternoon; writing down random poems and thoughts interspersed with lines from the book I was listening to, some of the text worked out well, but it's far from penmanship!! :-)
