Italian boar and lather for a special remembrance:

The extra photos today are images of my grandfather on the streets of Grosseto during WWII. Granddad survived the Great Depression, the war, a career on the police force, lung cancer, heart attacks and other ailments, but at age 89, he wasn't strong enough to K.O. pneumonia one more time. The family is gathering today to say our final goodbyes. He remained sharp and technically savvy up until the end, owing to a lifelong fascination with ham radios, through which he gained friendships around the world. He and I would Skype on Saturday mornings to stay in touch.

    So long, ol' pal.

    Omega boar brush
    Proraso Red
Old Spice a/s (What granddad used when I was a kid.)
The blade is a delightful recent eBay acquisition: 6/8 Sprock, Hamburg. Very good shaver. BBS

    Cheers!

    csrund,
A wonderful tribute to your grandad. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post (and the SOTD). Sorry for your loss.

Default Week of August 5 SOTD - Tuesday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Brush: 30mm Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger
Maxterpiece: 7/8" Wade & Butcher "Celebrated", Hollow Ground, Barber's Notch (w/ Forest Green G10 scales)
Honing (Refresh): 5 (light) laps on 0.3µ CrOx on leather
Strop: 5/30/50 laps (Torolf Linen / SRD Premium IV English Bridle leather / Ambrose Horsehide ClÃsico leather)
Soapreme: D.R. Harris "Arlington" Shave Creme + D.R. Harris "Arlington" Shave Soap + Glycerin + 1 drop of liq. Lanolin
    Astringent: Thayer's Original Witch Hazel
After Shave Splash: D.R. Harris "Arlington" AS
After Shave Balm: D.R. Harris "Arlington" AS Milk
    Cologne: D.R. Harris "Arlington"EdT
Results: Another über-shave today with über hardware and software. The W&B needs no introductions other than she was restored by our very own Max. Despite the fact that her last honing was a little over 10 months, she only needed a quick CrOx refresher to take on a super smooth edge. Either I have finally learned how to shave properly or this razor has the kind of edge that is built to last. It seems like the Arlington software and the M&F brush were a match made in Heaven. The lather just exploded out of the scuttle with my face being the beneficiary of this heavenly creation . I just can't wipe this big old smile off my face, which makes the missus very happy too. One shave = 2 happy people

    Have a B-I-U-U-U-T-I-F-U-L Tuesday gentlemen .

    Cheers,
    Robert

Gentlemen, here is today's shave menu:

Razor: Krusius Brothers 11/16 spike — restored and honed by the great sham — and what a glorious shaver
Brush: Rooney Heritage Super Badger — possibly the densest brush on earth — and not exactly a favorite
Soap: La Toja Manantiales spiked with Bulgarian lavender cream
    Pre-shave: Edwin Jagger
    Scuttle: Moss
    Face lather
    Alum
    Witch hazel
    Balm: Arko unscented
    Aftershave: Royal Copenhagen

    -SOTD-

    Prep: Hot shower
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes (1st pass), AOS Sandalwood (2nd pass)
Soap: L'Occitane Cade (1st pass), MWF (2nd pass)
    Brush: Semogue 830
Razor: Jones & Thomas Utica, NY, Blue Ribbon German Make
    Post: Cold Towel
    Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel
    Balm: AOS Sandalwood

In my recent search for a wedge type razor; I found the Jones and Thomas. The dealer knocked off 4 dollars so I could not resist. I ended up paying 10 bucks. Only thing I did to the razor was hone it and swap out the scales. In the end, everything combined into a killer shave this morning. I needed one. I have been down in the dumps the last few days. This brought a big ole' smile to my face.

    Simmo,

I have a Schlieper almost Identical to yours, and I cannot agree more! It is one of my finest shaving razors.

    13/16 J.A Henckels Friodur
Mystic Water Lily of the Valley
28mm TGN 2 band in Butterscotch
Thayers Lavender, Classic Pinaud and Proraso Cream

A Lovely 2 Pass with slight cleanup. The Friodur is one of my favorite razors. I think it needs a little touching up, but shaved very good regardless.

    A clean and refreshing DFS!

    Pre shave - Arko
    Razor - Muhle '11 R41
    Blade - Polsilver
    Brush - GOSH Heritage
    Soap - Mike's Unscented
A/S - Boots Witch Hazel gel followed by Tabac A/S lotion

I've finally got my head around Mike's Unscented Soap... fantastic, leaves my skin feeling great. The Polsilvers are a great shave, but the Astra's are still top dog with the Muhle, still haven't found anything as smooth for the R41. All in all a DFS.

BTW: How do you like the scent of the C&S Oxford & Cambridge soap?

Also, congrats to the UK winning the 5th gold in Track Cycling. Jason Kenny's run was nothing short of amazing. What a performance that was
Thanks, Robert, and yes, it couldn't have gone better. The Bismark was one of my early acquisitions from Neil, and whilst I have bought other straights and sold some, this one will not be going anywhere. The O&C was not my original choice of scent, but the No.88 was out of stock so I took this instead. All I can say is that it performs in the typical Italian fashion, yet with an amazing scent. I'm glad I bought it. And yes, we seem to be doing very nicely in the cycling! Another medal today I believe.
