Thanked: 1072We just got back from a long weekend away.
My family and about 10 others were given a holiday by a group called Camp Quality.
They organize events like this for kids with cancer and their families (even after the kids have finished treatment)
The weekend involved activities such as whale watching, deep sea fishing and lots of over-eating.
Everyone had a great time.
And this is what we woke up to, this sunrize photo was taken about 20 steps from the back door of the house we were staying in
The boys on the way home this afternoon
And the shave...
Strop: MickR's Roo hide
Soap: Tabac
Brush: Comoy Badger
Razor: John Hassall 6/8 Wedge
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel
Balm: Nivea Replenishing
A/S: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
I haven't shaved since last week and decided to pull out the Hassall wedge to deal with it.
The shave was nice, and a great way to relax after a busy weekend, but I will give the blade a few laps on the Chrome Ox before the next shave.
Have a great week gentlemen and thanks for the great posts and pics

Gentlemen, here is today's shave bill:
Razor: Ralf Aust 6/8 round point *
Brush: Vulfix super
Soap: Mike's Natural
Pre-shave: Edwin Jagger
Scuttle: Moss
Face lather
Alum
Witch hazel
Balm: Institute Karite
Aftershave: Bronnley
* Ralf Aust is a relatively new brand of German razor and this was my first shave with it. I must admit, I am quite pleased with the Aust. The scales are standard plastic, although far from flimsy. The blade is quite handsome. The razor seems to be well put together. Most of all, I liked the shave — it came shave ready. This is a keeper.

Hot shower prep
Razor: G Johnson ~1815-1830
Hone: George the Fourth ~ ?
Soap: Vintage Colgate
Mug: Pewter porringer
Brush: 30's Lucite EveReady
Aftershock: Alum bock
Splash: HESS Rose Face Lotion ~50's
A good shave and another fun one! Remember most old fragrances for men do not "....lose their flavor on the bedpost over night" Meaning; for those too young to remember that horrible song; that many half bottles may still be a nice splash! The old brushes were, at least in this instance, paintbrushes. The old Colgates was a dream with a lot of tallow.
The rest of the story:
I have seen a lot of G.Johnson's in bone and this was the first in the fancy pants. Sometime in the past couple centuries someone must have loved that blade enough to buy or somehow acquire a new set of clothes! It appeared to have been a kind of a kluge to get the blade into the scales and the were quite a few non-factory grind marks. Having little requiring my attention yesterday, I could at least renew the blade. A regrind and semi-polish followed. I then honed her to shave ready last night. "George the Fourth" was a bit too aggressive and I went to a Coticule.
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Thanked: 485That's a bloody cool picture/idea. I very rarely use the 'ocker-ism' 'bloody' but I don't think I'm allowed to use my normal adjective here...
Yeah, I know, normally I either 'gush' about thinks or 'rant' about things, there's really no in between...
What? Are you a time traveller or something? You are, aren't you? You're a TIME traveller!
Thanks for the photos, Grant, Camp Quality is a great organisation! :-)Last edited by carlmaloschneider; 08-27-2012 at 10:06 PM.
