SOTD September 23rd, 2012
No Prep
Razor: BRAHMA Solingen
Soap: P-160
Mug: 1890's Staffordshire scuttle
Brush: Semogue boar
Aftershock: Alum block
Splash: Dollar Store special very similar to English Leather.
A quick and painless shave using the scuttle. The blade was sharp and the lather was sufficient to get the whiskers gone.
A nice well used old travel blade that may have been made by Dorko. I have seen similar blade patterns and slip cases from them. It does hold a great edge and seems to be a full 6\8ths.

Thanked: 485Monday
Well, I’ve got a lot to write about today, new cream AND a new brush. Most of my SOTD posts don’t feature a brush. This is because I own only one, and thought it a little ridiculous to trot the same thing out over and over. The brush I have is a nice one, but not a very expensive one, it’s a Windsor Pure Badger that was, I think, around 50 bucks. The new brush is a Semogue 1438 boar bristle, and it’s quite nice. I love the vintage look, and it was cheap; 12 Euros. It was very stiff out of the box, but I soaked it in hot water for an hour, then rinsed it and replace the water and soaked for an hour more, then made a lather with the new cream (more on that later) to produce a bowl full of goodness; added a lot of water; and soaked it in the cream for an hour more.
The cream was the new Musgo Real Orange Amber. I’d stopped using Musgo Real as I’d moved to natural soaps, but when I saw the new formula I had to have it. The Orange Amber scent is interesting. It’s not as orangy as I’d expected it would be. It’s a very nice scent, and took away the new boar brush smell after the soak mentioned above. The lather it produced was pure Musgo; I’d always felt Musgo Real to be up there in my top few creams as far as lather-ability goes.
The De Pews razor was what was needed mid afternoon after watching that kids’ movie ‘Hugo’. Excellent movie. I love steam punk stuff, and while movie isn’t really steam punk (it’s set, I think, in the 1930’s or 40’s) it certainly features some very cool design concepts and brings together a few things that I like. I used to play with an old mantle clock my father gave me when I was a kid, as well as an entire dashboard from an old car, so it brought back memories. I loved the fashion in the movie, and the culture. The De Pews just seemed to go with the style of the film.
This afternoon was spent on the front veranda in a cane chair with a glass of wine reading “The Adelaide Review’ wearing a white singlet. I think maybe I looked quite Italian.
Health and happiness to you all…

MONDAY the 24th
Hot shower prep
Razor: Столица страны Capitol of the Country ( some great Russian steel)
Soap: SuperMax
Mug: Soup Cup
Brush: Horsehair
Aftershock: Alum block
Splash: TARR (Romania)
What a morning! The day is gorgeous and the sun is shining. The shave was so smooth that I found myself applying lather for the fourth pass without thinking. So I made that pass also. BBS today; not a usual occurrence!
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!
