    Default January 7th to 13th

    Hot shower
    Conditioner in face scruff
    5050 kent brush
    TAGMSC shave soap
    Macer 7/8 point.
    Hot water rinse
    Cold water rinse
    TAGMSC aftershave balsem.

Wonderfull, freaking amazing. Smooth as glass and no irritation at all. Such contrast against the Alum block incident a few days ago. I was a bit worried that that hadn't healed in two days but luckily my face was happy to recieve a new shave.

Bobbo, you're going to like this razor. Especially if you ever decide to get it re-scaled.

    Default Sunday

Hot shower with TGQ Gentlemen's Oak & Moss Bath Soap for the body & Lush Emperor of Icecream Buttercream on the face.

5/8 T.R. Cadman & Sons Bengall with Mohogany scales (freshly honed)
    Edwin Jagger Best Bager Brush
TGQ Leatherneck Shaving Soap (Oh Yeah)
Thayer's Witch Hazel w. Aloe Skin Astringent
    Lush Dream Cream moisturiser
    Nigerian Green Musk essential oil.

The razor wasn't quite there so I stopped short, leaving a goatee behind. 3 laps on the 12k Japanese waterstone, 18 laps on the Chromium Oxide pasted brushed leather side of my Tony Miler pocket paddle & 6 more laps on the 0.25µ Diamond pasted tan leather side and I'm ready to Shave Test it again. The question is, "Can I keep away from that Leatherneck soap"?

    Hey X-man,

I have a T Cadman & Sons Bengal so are interested in how you get on with this. I have limited experince honing other razors but managed to get a W&B sharper without much effort.

I have the Bengal shave sharp and passing the HHT but no where near as sharp as other guys can get other razors. I was wondering if it was my honing to blame or whether the razor was the limiting factor (steel quality not as good).

    6/8 Crown & Sword 1/4 hollow
    TracII
    SR3122 Silvertip
    JM Fraser Shave Cream
    German Pitralon Classic
    Neutrogena Post-Shave Defence ASB

I just can't seem to get this razor sharp enough - I've spent some time with it on some Barber's hones of varying grit and the pasted paddle, but just can't seem to get the bevel/edge even. I keep taking one step forward and two back - I'm going to wait until the weekend and hit the 4K/8K and do some pyramids to see if I can get this badboy sharp - the blade is beautiful and I like the grind/size combo, so I have high hopes for this once I get things sorted.

I did about 3/4 of a pass and then switched to the TracII

The funny thing is that the blade passes the HHT - but doesn't shave great - first time that's happened to me.

It won't be the last - now you know why we keep harping on the HHT being only an approximation of "shave ready" -- I always wind up refreshing my razors long before they fail the HHT.

5/8 T.R. Cadman & Sons Bengall (freshly honed off the lithide)
    Geo F Trumpers Limes cream
    Badger brush (rubbish small one)
    Gillette aftershave balm

Finshed honing the razor using LX emergencies honing method (couple of swirls on a low grit stone followed by many passes on the finishing hone until it starts to draw and then 60 stropping stokes).

This shave was beautiful! I never really strop much more than 20 strokes maximum and normally do around 10 to 15. The extra passes on the finishing hone and the strop have certainly made the difference. Cheers pal!

The trumpers cream is my absolute favourite (although i am yet to try Colleens, will do tomorrow).

I have some Taylors balm but think the fargrance is a bit barber shoppy so put on the Gillette i still have kicking around, far from ideal). I'm going to get some Korres Marigold soon as i had a sample sachet of that and it is the business.

5/8 T.R. Cadman & Sons Bengall with Mohogany scales (I guess great minds think alike, Bobbo)
    Edwin Jagger Best Bager Brush
TGQ Leatherneck Shaving Soap (man I like this stuff)
Thayer's Witch Hazel w. Aloe Skin Astringent
    Nigerian Green Musk essential oil.

Not quite there yet so I did 3 1/3 pyramids on the Norton 8k and Sharpton 12k followed by 24 laps on the Cr2O3 and 12 on the 0.25µ Diamond. If that doesn't do the trick I'll consider going back to the 4k. Just worried about overhoning.

    Default First Shave

I just finished up my first official shave with my new 5/8 Dovo. I think could be sharper, i'll work on that this weekend when I have more time.

Overall though, it was a great shave. No cuts, no blood, no stitches, i'd say thats good for a first timer. I did have to finish up with my Gillette Fusion though.

Once I got started it wasnt nearly as intimidating as I had thought, and the work with my left hand went surprisingly smoothly.

    Yeah, that's a good sign.

And there's still room for improvement.
