Thanked: 485Today's razor has been to hell and back over the last few days. Firstly, it suffered a marathon Carl Patination session lasting TWENTY TWO hours. After the 22 hour soaking in vinegar it was honed and put to bed, the blade ready for Friday's shave. However, alas the leather scales were wet and on Friday morning the blade where it was covered by the scales was covered in brown rust. So I gave it a good going over with some 800 wet and dry. I then took it to the Norton 4/8. I evened out the bevel a little at the toe on the 4k and then did a pyramid of 20 x 4, 20 x 8, 19 x 4, 20 x 8, 18 x 4, 20 8 all the way to 1 x 4, 20 x 8. At the end I REALLY concentrated on NO pressure. I then took it to the Shapton 16k and did FORTY laps on that; really light for the last 20. I then stropped 30 linen, 70 leather on my nice Miller strop (genuine linen, English bridal) and put it away last night. Today, I stropped again on the Miller (30/70) and used Madame Scodioli 'Step Right Up' soap. The Mme Scodioli 'Step Right Up' after shave finished off the session.
The result of the honing was a "F*&^ing hell" after the first two strokes. The edge was so smooth and sharp. The shave was a nice relaxing bedroom shave, I was enjoying it so much I asked the wife when she came in if I should shave the beard off and leave my moustache and soul patch. She said no. She said it would make me look like a porn star. The movies she watches must be VERY low budget...

Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

05-05-2013, 07:17 AM #8Prep: Hot shower
Brush: custom Neep in Desert Ironwood handle
Razor: Cowboy + GEM Micromatic (for head)
Soap: Dr Harris Almond + Proraso cream
AS: Clubman
Strops: Neil Miller
Result: Uberclean, botth doom and mug
Clubman was a nice surprise (long and nice smell) and the Cowboy edge took a new high after a short touch up on a Japanese natural level 5 stone (cheers to Mr Magnus for letting me have a go ... I think, now I want one and apparently they cost an arm, more or less).

I bought this razor on Ebay, and after I got it, it went into my "drawer of shame". I had bought an razor that couldn't be used. It had a VERY big frown, warped, cell rot scales and I had no idea what to do with it. I took it to a straight razor meet in Yakima, just to show what not to buy. Then I heard, "Oh, we can fix that, what kind of scales do you want"? Gerrit made a pattern and whipped out some cherry wood scales in twenty minutes!! Glen, of gssixgun fame, took the frown out by doing some of the craziest things one would ever think you could do with a hone. I wish I had it on video, he did things to it that shouldn't be done, or so I thought, and in only a couple minutes the frown was gone!! The finish wasn't dry by the time I left the next day,(over 600 mile drive home), but Gerrit finished it up, honed it and sent it to me. This razor has truly been reborn. From a life destined to be forgotten in the drawer of shame, to a razor I look forward to in my rotation.
