    Default Stubble Question?

OK let me start, I'm shaving with a vintage adjustable razor and I'm 3 shaves in I feel my prep is fine I'm having no razor burn and very few knicks, I use derby blades and am getting bbs shaves on both cheeks, but can't get the stubble on both sides of my adams apple. First shave razor was on the 1st setting, 2nd shave on the 3rd and 4th shave on the 5th. I make 3 passe wtg, xtg, atg and I've also tried touching up the throat and neck with j strokes, so do yall think it;s a blade issue, razor still not set aggressive enough. or technique I may not be using enough pressure? as I haven't experienced the type of razor burn that some of the newbies like myself have complained about. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

    Hello Joe,
The neck gives a lot of people trouble. In your case, hold your swallow for a few moments to flatten the Adam's Apple and shave. Also, another good way to attack the area is by stretching.

Like Obie said, swallow and hold. Look in the mirror, take a swallow and hold it. See how your adams apple disappears? Then you can shave over it in any direction. That is what I do.

I have trouble with the neck too.....You say you're doing WTG,XTG, and ATG are you making these passes literally? or have you mapped out the hair growth on your neck? If the Derby blades are working for you, then I think your fine. I think their are better blades, but that's a matter of opinion. If you're using pressure the blade is most likely dull/defective, possibly? A fresh blade might be in order? a sharp blade should require next to nothing as far as pressure.
The growth pattern for me runs East to West and somewhat North West in some area's. Try a diagonal pass while looking up and pulling or stretching the skin. Or you can do what I do and say the heck with it and be satisfied with your results. It's easy to become OCD chasing BBS shave...

It's definitely not a pressure issue Even though there may or may not be a better blade for you if the shave is fine everywhere other than around your adam's apple it has to be a technique issue.

Either swallow as mentioned or just move the skin to each side (stretch) and shave it there.

I really don't think it's a pressure issue, probably should have gotten a sample pack of blades, thanks for the tips I'm going to try swallowing and stretching next shave.

It sounds to me that your head angle is suffering in the highly-cured area around your Adam's apple. This is not unusual.

Even a Derby blade is sharp enough to lop off any hair it actually encounters, so I doubt the blade is to blame. Use Obie's advice and try to get the skin as flat as possible, as that will clear up the angles.

    All the best.

Derby Extras are my go to blade for the DE. my neck and chin are the toughest to get super close shaves so I can relate. Just be patient and resist the temptation to use too much pressure. Try several different angles till you find the approach that delivers the closest shave.
