    Default The "I'm Late" Shave

Today was the first time I have woken up late sense I started using DE and SE razors. I no longer have my Gillette Fusion so I was a little concerned. As I stared at my shaving gear, I kind of panicked. I needed to choose my gear for this shave that I had less then 5 minutes to complete. I decided to go with my Pacific Shaving Company products and my DE. I left the shaving brush behind. My original thought was I was about to have the most painful shave in my life. To my surprise, I was wrong. Now granted, I didn't get the closest shave being that I only went with the grain. I did get a shave that didn't tear up my face, or leave it covered in razor burn. I am sure so many on here have a similar story, but I just wanted to share mine.

just wait until you do this when you are committed to SR shaving.

It's like this: make quick lather, smear it on, strop your smoothest of the smooth shavers, take a sip of coffee/upper lip lather, make two quick passes, maybe a touch up.

    Rinse, wipe, splash, walk...

and seriously consider the option of night shaving.

I've had a similar experience, but I found myself rubbing my neck and chin all day wishing that I didn't sleep late! We get so spoiled with this hobby.

I cant really do the night shaving yet. My shave doesn't last very long because I am still learning my technique. I am in the military and showing up to work with a 5'O clock shadow really doesn't fly with my boss.

DE all the way for the morning rush, if I didn't make the time for a proper night time shave.
Tried my st8 on a weekday morning once, still got the cat scratch like scars on my chin 2 months later so nope, not again.
A st8 shave can not be rushed, at least not to a novice like myself.
Night shaving with the right tunes, the right suds, and the right mood are key to a two day shave for me. Done right at night, you will pass role call with flying colours.
    Cheers.

The key to the "I'm late!" shave is spending a few hundred shaves finding your go-to razor and blade combination. I know that sounds kind of elitist and condescending, but I don't mean it to. What I mean is, I know with a Merkur HD/Super Iridium or a Gillette Tech with a shim and an Astra green, I can go as fast as I once did with a Mach III. I can do 3 passes in the time it takes me to strop 50 strokes with a straight. Heck, I can do 2 passes in the time it takes me to dry a straight. I'm not bragging, I'm saying if I can learn to do it,anyone can! I look back at my journal where I first started with a DE, and I probably "respected" that thing more then, than I did my first straight. Probably because proper prep, light pressure, and good lather-building carried over. It's tough learning all of it at once, but hang in there, like I said, if I can, anyone can!

My answer would be one of the above razors, Speick cream or Proraso green soap, and a Semogue 1305 brush.
