Thanked: 4Studio blades from Walgreens
Guys,
New to this whole game but I've always been interested in sharpened steel. I had my first straight razor shave a few weeks ago at "The Art of Shaving", (including my head). It was a Father's Day gift. The face shave felt awesome but the head shave could have been closer. I'm anal about BBS on my skull and my "standard" shave is multiple passes with a "Head Blade". For whatever reason I've always looked at shaving as a chore, to hurry up and get done. Now I can appreciate the grounding effect of taking this time for me, ( I must be getting older, lol).
I've decided to first try DE shaving, with my grandfather's adjustable DE. I don't know the brand, just that it is an adjustable and it was his..... My question is about the "Studio" brand blades sold at Walgreens. I haven't purchased one of the sampler packs yet, as y'all recommend. Last night my honey showed up with a Studio five pack. She knew I was looking for blades locally but hadn't had much luck. I wanted to know if any of you have tried these blades and what you would compare them to?
Sorry for the rant, I'm just excited about getting started with this.
thanks

Havent tried the studio blades. So not much help there. That being said I am also a long time headblade user. Started with their products shortly after they were released. IMO you wont get a better head shave if done right. My routine is the same for both head an face though. I use the same wet shaving techniques for both. Seemed to make a difference. As far as DE blades go, like all other normal recommendations I will say go ahead an grab a sampler. May give the studios a shot. Just know that starting out your angle an pressure is going to be a learning curve. That being said if you are using a not so sharp blade your results are not going to be pleasant. Good luck an stay at it.

Thanked: 1185Last I knew Walgreens blades were re-branded Personnas. I can't speak directly to Studios but I have bought more than a few DE blades from Walgreens and they're good to go. Conversely the CVS single edge blades are absolute feces (imagine shaving with a broken beer bottle). Never had a problem with Walgreens DE blades though. Every once in a while you can snag Wilkinson DE blades at Walmart.
The older I get, the better I was

The reviews I've read on other wet shaving blogs don't rate the Studios very highly.
That being said, you should be able to get a couple of decent shaves from that five pack of Studio blades--until your DE sampler pack arrives."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 0add in "made in Israel" on back of package and Israeli Personna comes to mind. Barber shop version of the Blue Personna. Picked up a pack myself. They looked good, but didn't work on my scruff. The ones stamped "Made In USA", otherwise looking superficially the same, work very well for me. The Dorco(Micro Touch 1) from Walgreens/Walmart/CVS as seen on TV aisle, were "ok". So many options from Meh to Eureeka! one or five brands will be sure to please you. Good Luck on your search!

Thanked: 4My mornings are a scramble so I hadn't been able to take the time to try out the DE until last night. WOW, all I did was try it out on my face with a couple of passes. I wasn't sure how my neck would take it and being mid-week I didn't want to cause a bunch of irritation. It felt a bit odd to take the extra time but sure was nice. I'm going to work on technique this weekend. I can't wait, my cheeks were still smooth this morning as if I had just shaved with my disposable. This will be addicting........ I know, you all have warned me
