Thanked: 3225You guys have really started something here. I likes my open comb and slant razors and this caught my eye Above The Tie Store - Atlas Slant Open Comb - Stainless Steel Safety Razor . Anyone use one?

From polls and reviews, I would say ATT hands down.
I have not tried the ATT but have the ASD2 and love it but ATT probably beats it. Firstly ASD2 is injection molded and is NOT 100% stainless, the ATT is machined and 100% stainless. The ASD2 is maybe too mild for some, ATT has loads of options.

Gentlemen,
The Feather AS D2 is no better than the Above the Tie, and the Above the Tie is no better than the Feather AS D2. These are completely different razors with completely different characteristics; therefore, matching them against each other is a pointless contest. The Feather is designed as a mild razor but a fine shaver — once you get the angle correctly. The Above the Tie, designed as a far more aggressive razor, is also a fine shaver. I take each razor for what it is and don't compare the two.

What I find unfair to compare is the "ATT system" with the feather. The ATT system has more options to cover indivdual preferences, you have various levels of agressive heads, saftey bar and open comb, slants. The feather has a single head and zero options. It's like comparing 8 razors to 1. IMO the feather is hit or miss with many while it's easier with the system to find a head that can suit almost anyone.
I also think it's intirely fair to compare the AS-D2 with the ATT M1, I can't see why it wouldn't.

I have had one with the M and R solid bar base plates, (I never tried any OC base plates, because I have never liked any oc razor yet)
Very well made razor oozed quality,
I have sold mine on as I felt I was getting better shaves from my other razors (And I wanted to thin my den down a little now down to 15 ish DE and 7 SE and 16 straights) I only use a hand full of razors on a regular basis.

Thanked: 14There are two ATT Atlas's here, one open H2 and one open comb slant S2, as well as the Feather. Obie says it well, they are different. Both of very high quality, the ATT is, I believe, fully machined while the Feather is sintered SS. The ATT's require a steady hand, the milder (much) feather can get it done in a hurry if need be.

Hi guys, just found this tread, so please excuse my late inquiry. I am thinking of getting the ATT Colossus R1. I have a medium to light beard, and I am currently using a Merkur Futur and Merkur Progress with a number 2 setting on both. IYO, is the ATT Colossus (I like longer handles) R1 the right ATT for me to start with? Thanks for your help! Ed

The ATT R1 is a sweet razor, medium aggressive, and a fine shaver. I'm sure you will like it. The Colossus is a long handle, although I find the knurling a wee bit too rough. Also consider the Kronos handle, which is shorter than the Colossus, but I find the knurling a wee bit more comfortable.
