Default Do Gillette slim adjustable settings corespond with other razor models?

I believe that the Gillette slim adjustable is fairly common among members here and was wondering if anyone had charted the settings against other razors? Sort of using it as a yard stick to help people buy the correct new razor. For example - Gillette setting 9 equates to a Merkur 43 and so on...

Obviously the reason I'm asking is, I have a Gillette slim and would like to buy a Merkur, just not sure which model.

For the most part, folks will give you a wide variety of answers. The only way to really tell for youself is to try for yourself. Everyone's impressions will be different.

Yes, I think that is so true. I don't own a slim but do have a Fat Boy and my "impression" of it set @ 9 is that is is very aggressive and similar to my Muhle R41 2013 version when both have Feather blades. What the other lesser settings might equate to I would not hazard a guess.

I use a 3 on my 1964 Gillette and new Merkur Futur.

I would assume the numbers would be equal on an adjustable, be it a slim, fat boy or super/black beauty. The slim I had set at 6 was pretty close to a Gillette red tip.

i use a 3 on my fatboy and slim , and a 2-21/2 on my Futur , 3 on my futur feels way more aggressive then on the Gillette .... my tech feels like a 1 on my slim , my super speed feels like a 2 on my slim , but of course with the diff heads and angles and not using any of them consistently most of my opinion could be based on improper angle

My slim set to 5 felt very aggressive - 3 worked much better. Of course this could change with time and experience. But, so far 3 seems to be the most popular setting - now the big question, does anyone know what Merkur model number gives an equivalent shave to a slim set on 3?

Why couldn't you buy one of the adjustable Merkurs and try it on all of the settings until you find the right setting for you.

I have the Gillette Slim, Fat Boy, and Black Beauty, they each have the same Gap and exposure on each setting. But being of different handle weights, lengths and thicknesses, I find that I've always had to adjust the angle of the shave due to the handle and take into consideration the weight differences. I find myself reaching for the Fat Boy more often when using an adjustable. Fits my hand best.
