Well I received my Jurgen Hempel Titanium Slim Wave today and took the MG out with it to give it a try. The light weight of the handle does indeed change the whole experience, and for the better I think. Of course the head is still weighty but the length, and the slimness, give the razor a very nice balance.

I used the same Feather pro for a 7th (seventh) shave, and no nicks, no cuts, no errors. Comfortable, smooth, and the Hempel is now the permanent companion to the Mongoose head. A marriage made in heaven as it were.

    I know ............ without a picture it didn't happen !

    Gentlemen,

I don't know how many handles I went through for my Mongoose in search of the perfect one. Mongoose, iKon, Above the Tie, Weber, Hempel and a few others. None created the perfect balance I needed. Some were too short, some too heavy, and some far from ergonomic.

Yesterday my Jurgen Hempel "Barber Pole" in titanium arrived — and finally I've knocked on Heaven's Gate.

I had the Jurgen Hempel handles before, the Barber Pole and the Hex, but both were in stainless steel and weighted a ton. You gentlemen suggested trying the titanium version. Now I am smiling. Thank you for your suggestion.

I don't particularly care for the Hex, but I love the Barber Pole. The Jurgen Hempel Spiral is next for me, if I can find one, to fit on my Above the Tie S1 slant.

My Mongoose is happy and I am happy. My shave this morning was pure silk. Here is the photo from SOTD:

Glad you tried Hempel. I dont use any others now. That one you have looks cool. I have the spiral and its great, the little gap near the end is a great grip point. Hope this all works well for you now.

Thank you, Alex. The handle not only looks striking, but the razor's balance is perfect for me. Now, for my search for the Spiral.

Obie, have you asked Jurgen directly for the spiral?

Alex, no, not yet. Somehow I can't locate him on Facebook. I will keep trying. I purchased my "barber pole" from the U.S. vendor Shaverevolution, but they have been out of the "spiral" for a while. I'll keep tying on Facebook.

*Edit* I just sent him a Facebook message.

Glad you got hold of him, he is great to deal with. He also has his own SE head that takes half DE blades that he is currently designing.

Okay guys, you wet my appetite and I just ordered a Mongoose and some Feather Pro Blades! Should get it on Wednesday, 2/24/16, as they shipped it already today. Now I will probably have to go through all this "handle stuff" like my friend Obie is doing! I recently got a ATT Colossus R1, which I like very much. The Colossus handle fits my hand very well and I will probably try it on the Mongoose to see how it feels. May also try to get one of those Hempel titanium handles that you guys are raving about!

Handle "experimentation" on the Mongoose is kind of like having more than one SR, shaving brush, soap, strop, etc. There is nothing, IMO, wrong with the handle it ships with; however, since I had a super heavy and large Maggard Stainless handle for another DE, I tried it and liked it better. Then of course along comes Obie with the other Stainless Maggard handle, so I tried it too, and I do like it.

This is a long way of saying if you want to experiment for less money (~$20), you ought to take a peek at the Maggard Stainless handles. I, of course, prefer a heavier handle, YMMV.

Thanks for your advice, Harold! I too like a "heavier handle", so I was going to try my ATT Colossus on it. Do you have a Colossus? Ed
