Thanked: 13A question about SRD's new razor honiing service, relating to a refresh, come time.
Sorry, I'm a straight noob, but not a forum noob. I exhausted the search function and did not find my answer.
When Lynn hones a newly purchased razor for a customer, does he use tape? I am asking, because I am thinking WAY ahead, as is my wont, about the refresh. Obviously, even a strip of electrical tape is going to change the attack angle of a refresh significantly enough. I want to match the original hone angle. So, tape or no tape? Obviously, tape would give me a steeper, more edge only refresh if he DOESN'T, but I don't want to reset an edge this early in the game..
Also, I am making a refresh strop for myself. Not sure if I will strop, or bench refresh. But I ordered some 3/32" 3"x36" balsa strips, some 3m fabric spray glue, D Rings, Paracord and some 23oz denim from Feebay. Planning to make a hanging fairly stiff strop, that I can also place on a flat surface if that proves more comfy.
Starting with 18" of Crox on balsa, then 18" of clean balsa, followed by 18" of Crox on denim, then just denim for my refresh. Sound like a solid plan?!

Thanked: 250IIRC Lynn doesn't use tape unless a customer specifies it or a razor is gold washed. In my case it didn't matter because I hone and maintain my own razors.
As for the strop, I use several hanging strops. The fabric on one strop has the inside treated with Mastro Livi crox from SRD and another strop has the inside linen treated with plumbers lead.

You don't need to tape with a strop anyway, so question is no. As to when you get to the ho Es as a new guy you will cause you would more than likely grind your spine to death,
Wether hanging or bench top , tape isn't an issue when stropping, good luck. Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”
