Well, nothing beats a straight and a shavette is really a disposable straight. The Mongoose will beat pretty much any DE out there except the R41 but that one is so aggressive you might as well use a straight.

Considering all the alternatives out there the Mongoose gives a very close shave and comes pretty close to a straight. Maybe it's the blade or maybe the design I don't know but I do know it's a favorite for me.

I found the King Cobra to be the most aggressive safety razor i've ever tried. The alumigoose is much less so, both give great shaves, but you have to much more careful with the King Cobra or else.

    just my 2 cents.

    Gentlemen,

The Mongoose is an exceptional razor. And yes, probably the closest tool to straight razor shaving. Mine has the satin finish and is mounted on a Jurgen Hempel titanium handle. I have used the Alumigoose before, the black model, but I am waiting for the gunmetal version, which I prefer. Either way, the aluminum version is a superb shaver, too. Really, the Mongoose and the Wolfman, each in its own way, are my ultimate shavers.

I wrestled with the temptation to order an Alumigoose when they showed up at Maggard's. Then the decision was made for me when they sold out

This is true. And the decision has been made. I'll be waiting with my cursor hovering eagerly over "add to cart".
