Thanked: 603A New Twist on Disposable Razors (Redux)
Apropos my previous post, here's an actual advert (Amazon) for a similar-but-"real" version:
A carton of 50 twin-blade razors, for $20. For those of us who shave once-a-week, that's not a bad deal. Could you get multiple shaves from one of these? Dunno... perhaps it depends on whether you rinse it. Anyway, click on the image and see the ad, for yourself.
Smooth shaving! You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Thanked: 1Not a product I'd use but kudos to whoever decided to make a paper fiber razor.

I'm sure 50 razors for 20 bucks, lets see that's less than 50 cents a piece and the seller and Amazon are making money here and if there is a manufacturer he is too so......no thanks.

My cartridge razor and spray cans of lazy shave days are well and truly over but, for those that still do it I can see why it looks interesting.
I don't know exactly how much I spent on cartridges over the years but almost certainly more than the cost of disposable paper razors and if a person manages to get a couple of shaves out of them, $20 for maybe 100 shaves doesn't sound expensive compared to Gillette cartridges.
Assuming that they give a half decent shave of course.- - Steve

Thanked: 49Contrast is a factor in everything we do. My dog thought her kibble was the best thing ever. Until she got some boiled chicken. And then she got a piece of steak. Etc. Most people don't pay that much attention to it. And if they don't try so they will never know what or if they're missing something. Carts are great for an inexperienced user(new shaver) in that it is hard to cut yourself to pieces. Give a straight to a new shaver with no coaching and it's a code brown (diaper change) lol..

I did know of the existence of safety razors, in fact I used one very briefly when I was in basic training before I even needed to start shaving really.
Probably because i didn't need to shave but was forced to so that the razor could be disassembled and laid out for inspection every morning I didn't fall in love with the whole safety razor thing.
While I was using cartridges for most of my shaving life I assumed, wrongly, that a single blade razor would have no chance of shaving as well as my five blade razor.
I never had a really decent shave with a cartridge because I didn't really understand how to shave I guess, out of the shower, one quick pass and done.
Having recently got a DE and took the advice of a couple of experienced guys on here before choosing which one to get I've discovered that not only was I shaving wrong most of my life but that a single blade safety razor, although not a close as a straight for me is certainly a huge step for man over a five blade cartridge and a lot more comfortable.
When I said not as close, I should have said that the shave does feel as close but the straights stay smooth for longer. I am too smooth the following day to need another straight shave but with a DE, although very smooth I need another shave the next day.- - Steve

I gave cartridge razors the first 30 years of my shave life. It's DEs and straights from now until I have no other options!
