    Default My next safety razor

My first safety razor was an Edwin Jagger 89 DE. It got damaged so I bought myself a Wilkinson Sword Classic(the black version). I still have it. I always have problems with the against the grain pass just below my chin and on the neck.
I am looking to buy a new razor. What should I get: a slant, an open comb, an adjustable?

I own a Rockwell 6S and have no complaints at all. It's made of stainless steel and you have the option of 6 different levels of aggression to choose from. The razor has a bit of heft to it which I like. It might be worth your consideration.

I own the same razor and am also quite pleased with it. I also like my Merkur slant. My beard, particularly on my neck, is coarse and the grain is weird. The Rockwell with a #6 setting and the Merkur slant cut through it with no irritation and much more efficiently than my other DE razors..

    Just focus on technique.
    Both razors are efficient.

If you liked your Edwin Jagger 89, you could go two places from there:

    1. If you just wanted to take a little step up towards closer shaves, you could go for a Mühle Rocca.
This stainless steel razor fills the gap between the Mühle 89 and Mühle 41 in closeness and aggressiveness, and I find the birch bark model particularly attractive.

    2. You could also leapfrog the Rocca and go straight for an open comb Mühle 41. They exist in various versions, like two-piece chrome, three-piece chrome, with chrome or black or rose-gold handle, or entirely made from stainless steel. With the obvious exception of the stainless steel model, all models are high-quality chrome-plated and should last a long time. This razor is fairly high on the aggressiveness scale, but is not the scary “beast”, as some like to call it, and will give you exceptionally close shaves.

If you chose some of the chrome-plated three-piece models, you could also buy the close comb (R 89) razor head with it and could switch between a R 89 and R 41 razor any time. This could come handy in the beginning, if you wanted to take a break from the (slightly) more challenging R 41.

All these razors cost more than the Wilkinson razor that you bought, but at the Wilkinson price range it is difficult to find a razor that can compete with your previous Edwin Jagger, or above Mühles.

All are great suggestions and i agree. I too have the rockwell but mine is the c6. Cheeper. Its a great way to find what you really like. Then step up when your ready without having to buy more razors. Just change plates.

Or just go crazy and start buying every DE you can find and learn to use them all. Thats how i did it. Damn i got a lot of safety razors.

    It's just Sharpening, right?

Yea, I got a drawer full. The only ones I actually use are my Blacklands and my Timeless. With some of the Blacklands I can get a shave the equal to a straight.

I was very happy with the Edwin Jagger. Never moved on from it. I still use it when I’m in a hurry or traveling.

What about a King C. Gillette or a Parker 26C for my next safety razor?
