Very first DE shave ever today
I went out to the not so local antique shop and actually found a nice little gillette with a comb for about 3 bucks. .. hell I couldnt pass it up. So I grabbed it and headed home. grabbed my brush and my soap lathered up and shaved away.
You know I will never EVER spend 14 dollars for six fusion blades again! I loved it. very close very nice. However I do think I need to get some kind of after shave.
why the hell dont more people use safety razors.
well crew thanks for being hear and turning me on to some really cool and great options for taking care of myself.

Very frst De . . .
Hello, Boog:
You made a fine choice in that double edge. Soon you will be spoiled — in a good way.
If you have questions on what razor blades to choose, please post them. As for aftershaves, exploration is part of the fun. Here, too, post your general fragrances and the gentlemen at SRP will load you with suggestions.
Also, don't forget to peruse the Wiki and the Reviews.

I love the nivea sensative aftershave balm (looks like thick milk). very good stuff. lots of good blades around for next to nothing too..
hope you sanitised it before shaving I find comb razors to be aggressive...

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Keep with it and you'll be amazed at how the shave improves as you fine tune your prep and technique.

Glad to hear that you found your entry into the world of DE razor shaving so satisfying. It usually is for shavers. Both I and my friends who I've been able to convince to convert have had the same reaction as you did.
As for aftershave...Start with your local drugstore. There is no need to spend an arm and a leg to find a nice aftershave that suits your tastes. Lots of SRP members like Aqua Velva (Blue) and/or Old Spice. I myself like Booster aftershave, which comes in a wide range of fragrances, but must be ordered online.
If you want to spend a bit more or really like bay rum, there is Dominica or Ogallala. The latter comes in different variations on the bay rum theme. It can be ordered directly online--and the vendor often tosses in a few freebee samples along with your order too.
Just my 2 cents...

Logistics, I will get some pics of it up for you tomorrow. it isnt real pretty but I digs it.
Obie and MadAussie right now I am just using the gillette platinum blades that walmart carries. I do remember reading that there is a decent sampler out there that I am going to search for tomorrow or later this evening. Thanks much for the comments.
Alabamalawyer I am already noticing.. so I only imagine it will just get better.
jhenry I picked up some Pinaud at my local drug store because that is what my barber uses and I am just kind of .. attached to it. I also saw that they have Bay Rum flavored at the same store in another town so I may pick that up this weekend.
thanks for the comments crew. I appreciate it

First DE Shave . . .
Hello, Boog:
For blade samplers, try West Coast Shaving (westcoastshaving.com), where they have a variety of sampler packs.
For what it's worth, my favorite blades are Feather and Gillette 7 O' Clock Sharp Edge (yellow packs). I have gone through a pile of double edge razor blades and found these two to work best for me.
Of course, what works best for me might not for you. The variety of sampler packs will help you find your preferred blade.

Thanked: 1195Congrats on your DE shave. It really is an easy conversion, especially so if you have prior experience with SR's. I also agree about why more guys don't use a DE. If, for whatever reason, I don't have time for a straight shave I'll reach for one of my DE's and not a disposable. I haven't shaved with a disposable or cartridge, for any reason, for well over a year; with a collection of straights and DE I don't see why I'd have to.

Ryan
