Surprisingly good first DE Shave
I had my first DE shave today. It was good. I recently purchased a Parker 82r DE w/ Shark super chrome blades. The 82r is new for 2010, and has the butterfly open feature. I've always wanted to try a DE, and while shopping on Amazon, I stumbled across it. It had lot's of great reviews, so I went on that. The shave was very smooth and quite good to my surprise. I hadn't heard anything good about Parker and was a bit worried.
I thought I'd be selling it on the classifieds.
I need a DE for days when I'm rushed and this will more than do the job. Hopefully, The Dreaded DE AD's won't hit, because I can be happy with this.
FWIW, I did my normal pre shave prep, used T&H pre shave oil, then Ogalla Bay Rum/Sandalwood soap, (great stuff btw) and finished with Booster Iced Lime AS from our neighbors to the north. As you know, stuff from Canada is always stronger, so it's good...We have assumed control !

First DE Shave . . .
Hello, Zib:
Congratulations on your double edge razor adventure, my good man. Once you've shaved with the straight, it's a cinch to play with the double edge.
I use the double edge in rotation with the straight and when I am short on time. I also still like the double edge.
Well done, sir.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 9Hi Zib,
Congrats on yout 1st DE shave. You'll find that with a little practice, and a little skin stretching ( not quite as critical as str8 shaving ) you can get as good a shave with a DE as with most any other method. The fact that you can do it in 5 or 6 minutes can be a plus on a hectic day.
I'm not familiar with Parker razors, but with a lot of vintage Gillettes and also my Merkur, I get very good shaves with WalMart and Dollar General Personnas at $2.00 for a 10 pack. Good luck with your DE journey.

Thanked: 1195Congrats Rich!
I hope I didn't scare you away from the Parker and the Shark blades at first. DE's and blades are very much personal preference, much like straight shaving. Glad it worked out for you.

Thanked: 33Yep!-there's alot to be said for the D/E-I'm using mine alot at the moment as working hours (14 a day) are not allowing me to use my straights.
Trying to keep shaving time to a minimum does not allow for a luxury shave and the beard is growing back quicker than with the straight.
Pound for pound though the D/E provides a relatively quick and comfortable shave for the time invested.
Congrats on your first D/E shave.
Here's to many more.
Regards

Thanked: 31Shaving with a DE is fantastic. So much better then a disposable or mach 3. The other day I was showing someome my straight razors and DE razors. They were not intrested in trying a DE because were happy with the mach3 they used. I guess some people are afraid to try something new.
