    Default Quick DE Question

    Hello, Brent:

That depends on your type of beard, how often you shave, and on the blade. Some gentlemen use the same blade for a week, some four days, some five, and so on.

As a general rule, despite using Feather and Gillette 7 O'Clock "Sharp Edge" yellow packs, two of the sharpest and best blades made, I think, I change blades every three shaves. I have a heavy beard, yes, but even if I did not, I still would change every three shaves.

I have come to accept from my own experience that, in general, the blade begins to lose its effectiveness after the third shave. This is not scientific, but my experience, as I said.

So, my good friend, I suggest going with the three-shave-per-blade set up.

    Regards,
    Obie

Okay, so this morning I purchased the DE blade extended sample pack from West Coast Shaving. My sister and I then went to the mall, and on the way back she said she needed me to stop by the drug store to get some Ayr nasal spray. We stopped at the drug store, and lo and behold they had 1 pack of 5 Wilkinson Sword DE razors. I figured I would buy it even though I just got the sample pack merely hours before.
So my question is, has anyone heard of Wilkinson Sword? If so, how would you rate their DE blades?

    Default Quick DE Question

    Hello, Brent:

The old Wilkinsons made in England were great blades. These days the blades are made in several other countries as well.

Some gentlemen like the Wilkinsons. I liked the old ones. The news ones do not impress me. That's me, though. The Wilkinsons you bought, however, might work well for you.

    Regards,
    Obie

Thanks Obie! I just bought them because I was going out to eat tonight with my girlfriend and needed to shave. It was all the drugstore had, so I figured they couldn't be TOO bad. They were indeed not too bad, i got my face almost BBS and had 2 weepers. I am discounting the weepers, however, because I did not feel them at all; I didn't even know they were there until I saw blood on my face! It is a very good feeling to know that if I am in a time crunch, I now have a way to shave quickly and get a shave that is almost as good as with my straights. I'll be posting on SOTD soon!

I usually change the blade every five or so shaves. I have a medium beard, I guess.
