what's the deal with the iridium super blades?
i've heard them mentioned as having some kind of following or cult status or something.. how are they in comparison to other blades and what's the deal behind them?

Victor,
The Iridium Supers, like a few of the current crop of Russian DE razor blades (e.g. Astra, Gillette 7'o Clock Sharpedge), give very good shaves for a lot of people.
I have found these blades, for me, are almost as sharp as a Feather blade, but are much smoother to shave with. I need to use 'sharp' blades with a DE, as I have most tough whiskers. The Russian blades also last longer for me - Feathers two (2) shaves, Russians three (3) shaves.
Others have found the same - very sharp yet smooth.
For me, the 'Russians' are excellent blades. They work in all my DE razors; the Iridium Supers really shine for me in combination with my Muhle R109. Stunningly good shaves !
I bought a 200 pack of Iridium Supers recently, and the box markings seem to indicate that the blades came from Gillette or a subsiduary !
Try a few and see if you like them; as you know, with DE blades YMMV
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

It would seem this is one case where you can get an inexpensive product that's really does work very well.
I don't know anyone who doesn't think highly of them.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I agree with all of the above. Leaving Feathers aside (not a blade for every day in my case, but excellent nonetheless), the Iridiums are my preferred blade currently in production. They're also cost effective when bought in bulk. I wasn't aware that they had a cult following though.

I'm pretty well stocked with the Israeli Red Personnas right now and I like them, but the Super Iridiums are a better blade for me. Now, whether they're worth twice as much as the Reds is another matter, but blades aren't all that big of a daily expense, so I'll pick up some S.I.s soon.
There's one other blade that I try to keep around, and that's the Astra Platinums. IMO, they aren't quite as sharp as the S.I. or Red but they are far smoother than either (although the SI is close). That's something nice to have when I get a little sunburned or have some other skin irritation.

Thanked: 1195I think there's more of a cult following for the Gillette Swedes (rather than Iridiums), probably because they are no longer in production and many guys love them. And I mean love them....
As for Iridiums: sharp, but very smooth.

Thanked: 31I have some iridium blades that I have bought a while back. They are fantastic blades and come 10 blades to a pack. As other have said the same as I do very sharp yet smooth shaves. They are worth a try.

Super Iridium . . .
Gentlemen:
The Super Iridium blades are known for their high quality as well as sharp edge. Well deserved, I might add. I, however, found the shave rough and irritating. My criticism of Iriudium is not for its quality; rather, for the rough shave it gave me. Obviously the Iridium and my Hollywood face are incompatible, although that is a reflection on my skin more than it is on the blade.
Feather and Gillette 7 O'Clock "sharp edge" yellow packs, after having tried scores of blades, have become my regulars. I must admit, though, that between the two I prefer the yellow packs for their silky characteristic. My face seems to agree.
I still have some Iridiums left and will give them another try. I could be pleasantly surprised.
Regards,
Obie
