Plating is much higher quality on the Muhle. Design on the Muhle is less aggressive (exposure and gap). To be honest, I got good shaves with the Merkur once I figured it out but I find the head design on the Muhle is less forgiving and the plating quality on the Merkur bothers me. Obviously, this is just one man's opinion and definitely YMMV. I know there are a lot of Merkur fans that would never change.

Ok so it seems that head is a 3 piece where lots of Merkurs are 2 piece.

Edwin Jagger DE 89L
Gentlemen:
Yes, the Muhle R89 and the Edwin Jagger L89 both use the Muhle shave head. I have both razors and love them. And yes, they are a three-piece design with superb workmanship. I, too, find the Merkurs generally more aggressive.

Obie

Ordered the EJ DE89L f/ my wife on Memorial Day. No doubt I'll sneak a shave or two w/ it when it arrives. Thanks to all f/ the first-hand reviews and comparisons in this thread.
