Thread: Disposal of used blades.

Well if your a crazy evil guy halloween is just around the corner.

I just use any old plastic bottle that has an opening to fit DE blades inside. why spend money to throw it away (blade banks)

I simply have an old plastic container with a slot cut in the top of it that I use to get rid of spent box cutter blades.
same principle should work fine for shaving blades.

if it's full, tape the lid & slot and just bin or recycle it, then buy a new tub of yoghurt and start over :P

The personna blades have a small blade safe built in to the back of the container. I have a sharps container for my Humira injections so I just use that. When I used to use single edge razor blades a lot for other things i just stuck them between cardboard till it filled up. Or a gatorade bottle. Them suckers are heavy duty.

You could use one of those big Monster cans with the screw off top. I don't drink the stuff, but I got the can from someone who did.

I used to dispose of my safety razor blades at my local Pharmacy; they have a sharps bin for hypodermic needles and didn't mind me using it for my blades

However, the old chappie retired, and the new Pharmacist didn't want to carry on with the arrangement

I now collect the blades in a very tough screw capped plastic bottle (an ex Oxoid micro media bottle).

Like others, I bought a can of chicken broth, poked a couple of holes and a slit in the top; drained the broth (enjoyed it later); rinsed the can well a few times and let it dry. When it gets full in many years, I can recycle the can which is steel and de blades in the recycling bin. As has been noted, some paint theirs, but this sits out of view, cost well under a dollar. It took maybe three minutes (not counting the drying time for the rinses).

another option when the bowl is full is to sell it for scrap metal :P

I save the used one to a Baking Powder can. Recently, I found a new use for them. I take one of my sanding stones used in my Dremel kit and dull both edges of the DE blade. Several strokes along the edge and 'lightly' test them shows that they are now dull. Thin, but dull. Then I take a Sharpie (magic marker fine point pen) and put the date code on the razor blade and date and any other pertinent info, and put it in the corresponding razor that matches it in my drawer. I have quite a few and the date codes are on the bottom and sometimes it's difficult to remember what a K2 was or a H 1, but by opening the TTO I look down in the "used" blade sitting there and see that this razor was made in 1964 2nd quarter. I have a Y1, a 1953 1st quarter, that was given to me by a friend and neighbor. I marked the dulled blade Y1, 1953 1st Quarter, Adkin. So now some time later I'll remember what that I got the razor from my friend Vern Adkin and I know at a quick glance the year/quarter.

It's so crazy.....it just might work
