Well, I've never used the SS but I have a fatboy and it is a great razor. Sure there are better among newer modern DEs but personally as far as classic vintage razors it is probably the definition of a classic.

I have a Harley Davidson Fatboy, but I usually use the Black Beauty...

I've used both before I started with straights, but I preferred my '49 SS.

I have both (Several of both, actually...) and IMO, no matter how I set the fatboy, I always get a closer shave with a 40's SS.

The fatboy is a cool razor. It's tricky and it looks good. But the 40's SS just works. It really is the razor that all other safety razors are measured against.

I have both, and it's the Superspeed which wins, specifically the 40s model. Better yet are the Rockets which are cosmetically very similar, but tend to be that bit heavier, and the Aristocrat Junior. I really don't have much time for light razors in the general run of things, but the Fatboy is a touch too cumbersome for my taste, so of the adjustables I prefer the Slim. All of which is just personal opinion, needless to say.
