Thanks for the encouragement! I have been using it 10 days now and playing with the settings has been an adventure to say the least. It didn't help that I bought some crappy blades to start off with but I couldn't wait to try it. I got some bad razor burn this morning OUCH! I tried a setting of 7 this morning and paid for it the rest of the day. I have been increasing the settings and see how I like it. I think it is time to back down some. I got some Wilkinson's today made in Germany at Chinamart I mean Walmart. I will try them out in the morning. The got to be better than the Winn Dixie brand made in Korea. You don't know if you like something if you don't try it, right. One of these days I will break down and order a sample pack.

Just got one myself, took me a bit to dial in the right setting, but I like it. Dont think I like it as much as my EJ, but it is definitely cool to shave with a piece of history.

I have been using str8s for years. I bought a Merkur 33c last week and had the best shave I had in years. I just picked up a Gillette fat boy on sleazebay and plan on using DEs more in my rotation..I have finally found a fix for my str8 RAD.

i started shaving with one of these around 69 tryed one of the yellow things when they came out . after the first shave with it i put it in the trash, shaved with it till o7 when i started with a straight , i cut a finger almost off with the table saw last year and had to go back to the gellet for a week, and couldent weight to get back to my straights, am saving it for when my hands get to shakey to shave with a straight.

Those are great razors and will last you a lifetime. Remember to loosen the doors before you adjust the setting, or eventually you will break it. I started using the slim adjustable as my first razor many many moons ago and I still have it today.
There are many vendors on line that sell blade sampler's as well and they can make a huge difference in your shave when you find one that suits you. Blades are a very peculiar and personal choice in the DE's.
Enjoy yourself.

Marks971,
Welcome to SRP--be careful--you'll be wanting to purchase a straight razor pretty soon. I own about a dozen old Gillettes and they are great razors, no doubt. Have fun.

On occasion I use a DE when pressed for time. My very favorite is a vintage Gillette of the old three-piece design with open combs. This is a pretty aggressive razor but it gives me the best shave short of a straight razor that I've ever had.
