And also, the main idea of the R41 is supposed to be the angle that the head puts the blade at. It's very aggressive due to this. I'm not sure if Merkur has an equivalent.

I've used many of Muhle's blades as well as Merkur's and I don't think merkur has any safety blade razors that compare to the R41

Welcome to SRP. The R-41 is definitely an aggressive razor, and moreso than any Merkur I've come across. The Ikon Tech is also in that class, but not for beginners IMO. A skilled hand is required for either of those or blood will flow.

Really? That interesting Jimmy, the idea of getting cut with a DE now is a remote one to me, and even knowing you can get a nick, never thought about various DE's being as you say, "more aggressive" than others, as in more likely to cut you.

Really yes. All DEs can be classified as mild or middle of the road or aggressive. I have the R41 and when I got it I had been using DEs for many years and the first time I used it I cut myself in about 3 places before I quit.

Of course eventually I mastered it but it's not a razor for a quick shave.

Andrew, it is sort of like a Mongoose with a Feather Super Pro. If you don't respect it, it may bite you. I consider myself a skilled DE shaver but I am extra careful when using a 2011 R-41, or an Ikon Tech. Muhle didn't redo the R-41 for no good reason in 2013 I guess it was. Anyway, yeah, you can get nicks with 'safety' razors too ....... IME

Yea, there are a few DEs out there that will challenge you to a duel besides the 2011 R41. If you are looking for cheap thrills the Fatip OC and a Feather blade would do it too. Closer to home the Gillette Fat Boy set at 9 with a Feather blade is another one. Used as you would a straight razor, find the right angle, no pressure and don't rush things they will give a very close smooth shave. Gotta love the aggressive DEs.

Fantastic review and I enjoy reading every details DLB I'm so glad that you have finally face up your fear against Freddy Krueger, otherwise he's just gunna keep on poking you with his finger knifes at you until you pickup the R41. Now that Freddy Krueger cannot fear you any more using the R41, he can't keep watching you over your shoulder any more when you pickup R41 for another shave. This means you have won against your fear when you really felt the blade touches your skin, and you thought for a moment that Freddy Krueger was going to give you the worse bloodbath shave of your life.
