I prefer Merkur, but I hear the newer parkers are better than they used to be. I don't have experience with a parker, at least not for a long time anyway.

So u think it would be a waste of money I'd figure it would be great for travel instead of packing all my straight razor stuff

I have a parker 60R. It's a good razor. On the mild side of medium. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Now you have your answer. And as for having it for travel, I'm thinking it would be a good compromise if it's mild/medium. Have you tried a DE before? (Sorry if you mentioned it)
@timj219, what blades do you use? I've heard the parker with a feather blade is a good pair, but I've never had a chance to try it.

Here's a good video. Not sure if this guy is a member here or not, but I like his videos:

I used DE's for about 2 or three years before I got into straight razors. I've used a lot of different kinds. I had up to 8 different ones at once. Since moving to straights, I only use a Merkur slant for travel, but that can be a little tricky for someone that hasn't used DE's before. It's rather aggressive.
