Thanked: 1195I usually do what I call the 5-4-3 technique: 5 for the first pass (WTG), 4 for the second pass (XTG) and 3 for the final (ATG). Works like a charm. You could also modify it, like 6-4-3 or 7-4-2. The sky's the limit

Thanked: 498Well I just had a wonderful C.C.S. with a #3 setting only using the weight of the razor to do the work.
Hey!!!! This is alright!!!
Gonna continue to experiment and click up to 4 next time and so on.
Thanks to all who shown me the light

Thanked: 498I wanted to give the latest progress report. I'm now getting very successful shaves with the setting set at 5 for W.T.G. and a 2 setting for a X.T.G. The key for me is the pressure or lack of pressure. I just let the weight of the razor do the work. Its been a fun learning experience with this Fatboy D.E. I'm really starting to like it alot. It will never replace a straight but its a fantastic alternative.

7 only regardless of the blade, but I get my best results using an Astra SP.

Thanked: 3225Another one late to this thread but here is my 2 bits worth any way. I set my Fatboy up by starting at 3 and then progressing up the scale till I got to the point where the shave was uncomfortable with cuts and then backed off one. I finally settled at 6 with Astra SPs.
I can imagine I would have to go through that routine again if I used another variety of blade to obtain an optimum setting and it could well be different than the 6 I now use. To me that is the biggest advantage of an adjustable DE, the ability to fine tune it for the blade you use, your technique and your type of skin.
Yes the Fatboy is heavy enough that you need virtually to apply no pressure. For me they work so well I have no desire to own any other DE.
BobLife is a terminal illness in the end

When I shave with a safety razor, it usually is with a fatboy. I shave at the 9 setting with an astra blade.

Really late on the post,, but generally around the 5-7 range with Feathers ,, but it's been 6 months since I'm a straight shaver. With my straights ,, I set them on 1, it's their only setting.
