On the odd occasion I use a DE, I still opt for my all-time favourite Feather blade. Back when the DE was my daily razor, in addition I also loved Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile, Shark Super Chrome, Gillette Yellows and the now discontinued Super Iridiums.

I don't have five favorites however I'll second Obie. I like the Feathers and the Iridium Supers and the Gillette 7s are great too. That's about it for me.

Thanked: 15In my personal preference, I do use Feathers as my favorite, Bolzano and the last one Wilkinson Sword (Black wording). It also depends on what razor I'm using the blade I will use. Vision=Feathers, Futur=Feathers + Bolzano, Pils= Wilkinson, 47c=Feathers and progress=Feathers+Bolzano and Wilkinson.
Thanks:
Ken

Thanked: 20Obie-
I have a couple questions regarding your selection:
First regarding the Super Iridiums: Have you tried the "New" PolSilver Super Iridium blades offered by some venders - the claim is that they are the original Super Iridiums, which appearantly were never discontinued but due to a distribution change, were unavailible for a while. I have some and like them, but I never tried the originals so I have no basis for comparrison. So - if you have tried them, what is your opinion regarding their autenticity?
Second regarding the Feathers: You have them listed as your top choice but I remember you denounced them in a past post. I believe that their inconsistency drove you past a frustration point and you stated that you would use up your remaining stock and the two of you would part ways. I'm curious - did you have a change of heart, or are they like the crazy ex-girlfriend: You broke up with her for a reason, but the occasional thought of her still brings a smile to your face...

Hello Joe:
From what I understand, the Polsiver Iridium is the Super Iridium in different clothing. Also, it seems the new ones are produced in Poland, although I am not sure about this. Yes, I have tried the new ones and have not found any measurable difference. This, of course, is hard to determine, unless one puts the two blades through a series of tests, which I have not done, and doubt will ever do. Either way, both blades are quite good.
As for the Feather, I have a love and hate relationship with this blade. For a period a while back I found the shave uncomfortable. I don't know what it was. No matter what razor I tried the blades in the shave was uncomfortable. Things changed suddenly and my shaves improved. I can't figure it out. Thus the love and hate relationship. I could have run into a bad stock. They do a superb job in my Feather stainless steel razor, as well as Edwin Jagger and Muhle.
Recently the Gillette 7 O'Clock yellows have been irritating. I am quite fond of these blades. Here, too, maybe I have experienced bad stock.
The one blade I have found that is consistent in its quality is the Personna red pack. This blade is not the sharpest among the quality names, but I find it quite smooth. Never have I run into a bad batch.
