Maggard mr1 razor
gentlemen
I received my new Maggard razor (mr1) a few days back, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. most of my experience is with straights, other than my grandfather's 64 Gillette slim. I hardly use a DE anymore, but it is my travel razor, and I wanted something that i wouldn't be afraid to lose. a heirloom is NOT a good travel razor. anyway I decided that for the money, it looked like a sweet deal.
now that I got it and used it a couple of times I can honestly say: it IS a sweet deal! the mr1 is half the price of the EJ it clones, is well plated, smooth and gave a 2 pass BBS. I like the weight, I like the angles, I like the just right aggressiveness. it is definitely a keeper.
I was wondering, since I have zero experience with EJ, can anyone who tried both give an educated comparison?

I never heard of it. When I saw your thread real quick I thought you said you had bought a Maggot Razor.

ran across the vendor's post (Maggard Razors) here on the vendors corner forum. didn't find a lot of reviews, but what I found was favorable, so I decided to try it. if I understood correctly it's sourced in the east, but so far so good. now the only question that remains is how will it keep as time goes by...
all in all, a good bang for the buck.

Thanked: 1371It looks like a hybrid with a super-speed handle and a Merkur head.
I didn't know Brad had his own DE's.

I believe Brad sells the same head with several types of handles. This one was the shortest, and since it's meant to be a travel razor seemed like a good choice. Their site is very informative, with a detailed description on each, including what other brands they resemble, to give you a feel.
Will definitely visit their site again. Bought a shaving cream sampler pack, as well. Very nice selection.

Other than a $3 chinese DE I started with for a few days, the 89 is the only DE head I've used and I love it. I've heard good things about the Maggard razors though and I wish them the best with their business. Very cool that they were able to make an affordable and effective DE. Have only used the EJ/Mühle head though, so can't do a comparison.
