I'd recommend the Feather SS folder with Pro Guard blades. Even with all the straights I have, if shaving quality was the selection criterion I would be happy with that alone.
Sparrow, I agree with my friend ace. The Feather SS folding razor with ProGuard blades is ideal for shavette starters. It is solidly built with enough weight and good balance. Indeed, it does give a fabulous shave.

+1 to Ace and Obie - it's a great system - both for beginners and "old hands"

Sparrow, quality costs money. I don't know any cheap stuff, nor would I recommend it. If you keep looking, however, you might find something.

sparrow, the feather is the Cadillac of replaceable blade straight razors (shavettes). I've googled discussions on the one you have and some guys think it is decent once the learning curve is mastered. If you can't afford a Feather now use what you have. Just look for the blade that suits you. If you can afford it, get a blade sampler pack. If not, buy different blades whenever you run out until you find one that pleases you.

Eventually look for a decent vintage straight razor and you'll find that is even better. Neil Miller at the Strop Shop here sells vintage razors at reasonable prices. You'll find that a true straight razor may be more pleasing to you than the shavette with the DE blades.

I have the Equinox Shavette who to my opinion is a real good shavette. The weight is right and really Hefty, it also take a full DE blade but be carefull of the blade gap(could be agressive). Use your favorite DE blade and of Course light touch no pressure. Here's a picName: image.jpg
