    Default dreadnought shavette ?

just wanted to see if anyone owns a dreadnought shavette and what their thoughts on it. I am debating on getting one it will be my first shavette razor, I have about 7 straight razors, 6 DE razors, and 5 injector razors so now i figured its time to try a shavette. I was thinking a Dovo shavette but for the price it doesn't seem worth it.

    Hi Oleg!

I bought a Dread a couple of weeks ago and have been happy with it. I have used Shark and Lord brand single edge blades and both seem to perform similarly. I have some Derby on order but expect them to be about the same as the others. It gives fine BBS shaves. As with all blades that sharp, it has revealed flaws in my technique which were easy to correct. I have found blades on the web for as cheap as $5.40 per 100 blades. A lot of shaving for not too much $$$.
    I found the Dread here:

Let me know if you get one and what you think!

I bought one from royal shave and so far it seem to be good shaver i used perma sharp blades and they are the best i have tried some other ones but perma sharp are so far the best. I like the shavette so far its just different from a real straight and takes some time to get used to but i like the fact that its smaller so i can get the hard to reach spots unlike a straight which is long and awkward at times. i have been wanting to try a non folding straight like a feather ss or the KAI Captain Excelia but they are pricey and i have plenty of razors as i previously mentioned. So far the best shave i get is with an old gillette open comb or a merkur 39 slant bar.

Yes thats what I think too. I bought a Feather Japanese style and it gave me the best shave I have ever had and it was tough to decide to buy it due to cost. I have my first DE on the way. Its a Gilette from 1960. Can't wait to try it!

Well I went ahead an got a dread shavette. First impression is very well built an sturdy. More than what I expected for the price. Picked it up from Geo at shave nation. Havent got the chance to use it yet. Shaved this morning but traveled with my normal merkur HD. Love that razor. So the next shave will try the dread. Thanks for the replies

    Hi,
I've been looking at the Dread but there was a review somewhere that claimed the blade edge exposure was larger than most other shavettes, so I held off. It's an issue since there's really no way to adjust for that. By way of comparison, the exposure on a Dovo shavette seems about right for me.

Anyway, someone could send a pic with a blade in place? Seeing how much blade sticks out would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Well I finally got around to using the dread. Been on road traveling an use my DE's while traveling. Cigar I would have to say yes the blade seems to stick out a touch farther than what I saw on the dovo. But Its not plastic an has some weight to it. I am slowly moving my way toward real straights. But till I get all gear together I think the dread was a great investment. Definitely shaved smooth. I only go WTG right now. Then finish with one of my DE's. But the initial WTG pass was comfortable an easy to do with the dread.

What blade did you use? Any chance of getting a photo?

    Thanks!

Cigar I tried half of one of the DE blades that came with the razor. They don't say what the brand is but they came in the exact same holder as merkurs. I haven't learned how to post pics yet. Still learning to navigate the sight. If I can figure it out I will post a couple.

OK, thanks. As you probably know, merkur blades generally don't enjoy a very good reputation on this site. On the other hand, maybe with a shavette its best not to use a sharper blade at the beginning.

I'm a big fan of shavettes...I've tried real staights and I'm still not sure if they are for me. If you reach the point where you want to try one I could send you one of mine as a trial before investing in your own. I have three, out being honed at the moment.
