Magic razor, third try.
Third try with a Magic brand replaceable blade razor. Only bit me twice, on the left side.
Hot shower, and hot cloth as prep, barbasol (sorry).
Third attempt, and I was able to shave my whole face. I think having a few straight shaves by a local barber has helped with knowing how it's supposed to feel...I think. A couple of questions:
I'm nearsighted, do you guys wear your glasses?
Left side=left hand?
Is this razor a decent one to "learn" with?

Thanked: 8I've got bad eye sight as well but I don't wear my glasses. It's bad enough that I'm not able to tell if I've got a decent shave without feeling it with my hand. I'm sure that if I wore them: my shaves would improve but I just haven't so I can't help there.
I used one hand. My left is inept. I can barely use it for lathering on soap without getting it in my ear/nostril. It necessitates some awkward moves but I don't really know anything else (since I'd rather not vangogh my ear)

Thanked: 1I absolutely wear mine, because each eye is different and in addition to being presbyopic, my depth perception is bad enough close in that early on I stuck the blade into my face while trying to lay it on for a new stroke a couple of times. I don't shave so high that the arms of my glasses get in the way.

I do use my left hand on the left side. It takes some getting use to BUT not impossible. Also, I lay the heal of the blade down on my face/head THEN rotate it to the right cutting angle. For me, starting with the right angle is the hardest part. Looks like a nice razor. Pm me with info on it price/place Thank you!

It is the same one I use for travel. For the price paid at Sally's (really cheap), I was not expecting a lot, however it does provide for a decent shave.
In my case, I learned on a regular straight and then went with the Magic. The technique is a bit different between the two, but not so much that you will have to completely relearn everything. For me, a regular straight provides for a better shave with more maintenance. The Magic provides for a DFS, only slightly worse than a straight, with no maintenance short of changing a blade.

DFS= "damn fine shave"
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Cool razor! Thanks for posting the picture. I don't think I have seen one before.
Do the blades secure well?
Anyway, congrats on getting a full shave in! Good job. As for the glasses, I guess that's a kind of personal thing. I wear em, but you know, I don't know if I have ever worn them as I shaved. I think some time back I decided i was better looking with them off lol. Hence, I think subconsciously I remove em before every encounter with a mirror.
Keep on keeping on!!David
