Default Best disposable straight / shavette which uses standard DE blades?

    Hi gents,

    First post here

I've been shaving with a DE safety razor for a while now, and I want to give a disposable straight (a.k.a. shavette) a try.

I want to try a proper straight razor in the future, but for now I want to test the waters with a shavette. At the moment, I don't have the expertise or time to commit to stropping/honing.

As I already have a ton of DE blades, I want something that takes normal DE blades snapped in half - which I think rules out things like the Feather Artist Club shavettes.

So... in your experience, what's the best disposable straight / shavette which uses half of a normal DE blade?

    Cheers,

For the best cheap shavette that uses half blades in my opinion it would be a Parker. I think feather shavettes are the best quality though. Of course this is just my opinion and I am biased since I started out with a Parker SRB. I haven't regretted that at all and still have it although I prefer a true straight.

Thanks guys. The problem with the Feathers is that they don't take normal DE blades.

    Which Parker would you recommend?

P.S. I'm sure I'll be back for the "real thing" some day too!

I picked up a magic from a Sally beauty supply for about 10 uses a standard de blade cut in half. It gives great shaves.

Parker SRB is the only one I could recommend because it's the only one I used.

How do you get along with the SRB?

I like mine better than the folding Feather i had! I use the Feather ProGaurd Blades. So for $50+ this is a good choice. Any of the , Long shavette blades will work I am just satisfied with the ones I found. And I use this along with Stairaghts and safety razors. It is a close shave and I like variety.

Thanks, that looks interesting, but I'm only looking for a shavette that uses standard DE blades.

I've got the SR1. It's the same as the SRB (and SRW) with SS scales rather than the black ones.

It's really all I know. It's sufficiently rigid and retains the blade well and seems sturdily built - it also shaves as well as my skill allows. It does all the things it's supposed to do.
