    Default Weck sextoblade

Some time ago I got a Weck Sextoblade in a box of other things. The Weck was not the object of my desire, so it has been sitting on the sidelines. I fiddled with it and noticed the disposable blades are longer than the 1/2 DE blades or SE blade as well as narrower than the SE blades. While looking for SE blades at Fendrihan one day I saw the correct blades and ordered them. They came ion recently and I gave it a go. It is fairly heavy and shaves pretty close to a straight razor. The shave from the blade was not what I am used to. Perhaps in time I could get used to that edge. It was very sharp, but had no smoothness. It felt like a sterile shave, and had just sharp and nothing else. The blades are by From and perhaps another blade would make a big difference, or maybe it just needs a good stropping.

If those are the personna blades they are pretty rough. I havent tried a Weck but my RAD fever is going. Let the blade go thru a few shave cycles and it will mild down a bit.

I have heard of the weck vintage blades being pretty good. What the length of the blade I can check my inventory. I might have some milder stuff in the den.

Stroping a shavette.....? I need to try that. Let me know how it works out for you.

They are 2 1/4" long. The only place that I have ordered from that had 2 1/4" blades only had the From blades. I have seen reference to Persona blades and another one that is a medical prep blade in SS. I think I have nothing to loose stropping this one to get some smoothness going on. It is built very much like straight so the mechanics should be the same. Perhaps I will use an older stop for this experiment.

Shaun, picked up an Sextoblade seven day set awhile back. Read where they can be honed and stropped like a regular straight. Looked around and bought Personna SS blades to use with it cause at that time I wasn't honing. Think I used it for a SOTD. Shaves nicely. In a way, a cross between a shavette and a straight. That's the only way I can describe it.

That is the same set I have. I have never used disposable blades before. I do have two Weck blades in good condition and wondered about touching them up. I will have to check up on blades as I order from different shops to try some different ones out. The DE guys claim different blades suit different faces, I suppose the same could be true here too.

I used to use a Weck to shave the tattoo area on customers before the germaphobes demanded twin blade disposables. At that time the only blades available in the local beauty supply were the Personna. I tried shaving my face with one and it was no go for me. AFAIC the Personna blades weren't even very good in shaving an arm or a leg on a customer.

The vintage Weck blades were much better when I could score some NOS on the bay. Referring to shaving the tattoo area, not my face. The Weck was pretty well made, but the frame is plated and will rust if you're not careful. A novelty but not something I would want to have to use as a personal shaver.

My thought was that if I found some decent blades for it or it I could tweak some blades for it that it might be good for short trips, so there would be less stuff to pack. I have no idea if it is going to work for me or not. All in due time I suppose.

    Rezdog

The hunt was unsuccessful. I used all my clouds on a mirror restoration.

    Sorry bud
