Thanked: 1Buying a new shavette???
I'm looking at a couple different types. Feather kami style
CJB kami style
Kai kami style and western
The cjb has my interest due to the price difference but the others look good to and are affordable if I don't get the 250$+ models. Who has experience with these?

Thanked: 1I really like the Feather Artist Club SS. Both folding and non-folding have done very well for me. Great prices on Amazon.

Thanked: 1I've read that they work good. I just like the look of the dx better.

For reference - one of the threads on the subject:

I've tried most of the variants and the very short answer is the CJB is a low cost way to try the system and for me the "best" has been the DX folding.
The easiest to learn on was the SS, both fixed and folding (that little bulb end seems to help when you are learning)
The shank of the DX folding is more like a conventional straight (size, jimps, balance) and the overall feel was closer to a conventional straight.
I found the shank of the SS folding difficult for my fingers/grip - and control with these things is way up on the importance scale..The SS Fixed on the other hand was great.
They all take some getting used to because they are just so sharp, dial back the pressure and angle (shave the lather) or weepers and cuts be coming..
Just like a DE, changing the brand of blade changes the YMMV all over again.
If you get the DX fixed pick up the plastic blade guard...it will save you some day...

Deathblade,
If you are going to buy a straight razor with replaceable blades, save you money and buy the best. The Feather Artist Club DX has no match in this category.

Thanked: 1185I own a CJB Kamisori. It's a great razor for the money. I've read a lot of people saying that the fit and finish is not nearly as good as the Feather Artist Club (if things like that matter to you.) That said, the CJB is not poorly constructed or flimsy by any stretch of the imagination. I've had mine for a couple years and have no complaints. It consistently delivers a great shave. Considering the price I would say you owe it to yourself to try one.

I've used most of the variants thanks to mjc. The cjb is a nice low cost kami that gave decent shaves. But as said already the feather IMO is the better choice. I prefer the SS kami over the cjb. Just feels better in the hand. Either way you decide they all give great shaves once you learn them. Just don't settle. If you think you want a feather. Get a feather. Or you will have money tied up in others that you won't use.

Thanked: 1I got a great deal on a cjb but am going to get either a feather dx or a kai captain in the future. Lol the more things I get the more different SOTD pics I can post. Thanks for all the advice. I look forward to showing off the collection as it grows.

I bought a Equinox full DE shavette on Amazon and i'm very impress whit the shaves it gave me. The shavette is heavy almost as heavy then a traditional straight, of course the choice of blade is a big factor but if you have a favorite DE blade you get great results.

Got the folding Feather SS for less than £50 (brand new and delivered from Japan) on ebay. Standard professional blades (20 pack) for about £15 from my usual shaving goods supplier. Can't recommend this razor enough! The shaves are fantastic once you get used to the razor - the weight of it does the real work for you and it should feel like you're wiping the bristles away instead of feeling like they're being cut away. The blades last very well and the rounded, flowing shape actually makes the razor easier to hold and use - the rounded point makes shaving the nose/upper lip area very easy.
I actually think that it out-performs my regular straights. It certainly shaves better than a DE and much better than a regular shavette and is definitely worth the money.Last edited by SpockIOM; 08-06-2015 at 10:28 AM.
