To many folks here your con is a plus.

Your position is exactly why 95% of straight shavers switched to DEs when they came out.

Many if not most on this site enjoy the maintenance. It's more like a hobby and in fact shavettes are way more finicky to use than a straight.

Well, the shavette does make an end run around the maintenance, and lets a noob have his first go at a more manly shave, while he is deciding about stuff like a strop, honing, etc, and unless you get a high end Feather AC rig, it is a nice expendable travel razor. It is nice to not have to drag strop along when traveling. The shavette also teaches the beginner about stretching the skin good, and using a nice low shave angle with a sharp edge. light pressure, setting the blade in motion just a hair before touching down on the skin, and other good habits. If you can shave with a shavette and not cut yourself, you can shave with your first straight razor without cutting yourself. It can be a useful introduction.

Better shave than a well honed straight razor? Nah. Bragging rights? Nope. Resale value? Don't make me laugh. But a decent, not absolute bargain basement and not high end top shelf shavette is a cheap and simple shave, especially if you use a half DE blade style shavette. Even a Gold Dollar costs more, when you have to also have it honed, buy a strop, and all that.

I am pretty sure that the majority of noobs who try a shavette and stick with it for at least a half dozen tries, end up eventually buying straights, strops, honing equipment, the whole works. Pretty sure that most guys who see a video on straight shaving think "hey, that's pretty cool" but don't take the plunge. Think of the shavette as the entry drug.

I've updated my agenda. Do you?
I'm not sure what that means but , hey, I have nothing against shavettes. If that's the way you want to go have at it. It's your face. Do whatever you want with it.

What I'M saying is this. Cock roaches, horseshoe crabs, straight razors. They have all been basically the same for an eternity. Why? Because it works and it works well. CDs were billed as "better than vinyl." I have 78s from the 1890s that still play. Do you think that CD will still play in over 100 years from now? Most of them don't even still work now.

Yeah, shavettes are easier I guess. Know what's easier than that? Growing a beard. Everything has ups and downs, pluses and minuses. For me, what most people would call a minus about straights I consider pluses.

But if the point breaks in space you have all kinds of graphite floating around and then you need some super high tech pencil sharpener to prevent any particles from escaping the mechanism.

When they went to the Moon they issued watches with acrylic crystals because they were afraid either glass or sapphire could shatter and release shards all over the place.

If the goal is stability, K.I.S.S. strategy ALWAYS is the best.

My point is, here and now both ways works fine to me.
But, I prefer the fast and easy one.
And, while I've blade for the rest of my life, It'll work.

About our "appointment", I think a good tool can survive centuries. If well maintened.
My shavettes are (mostly) from stainless steel, as my straight razors.
