Thread: French Patent 1819 for Razor with interchangeable blade.

    Here's one that is similar. I think it's a bit newer than the patent Martin pictured.

    The ONLY markings are a number "1" on the blades and the tang of the frame.




    I'm thinking it's probably from that "revival" era of the mid 1850's when the French were making "old school" stuff again. LOL

    Pretty sure the scales are tortoise too.

    It's a mystery set for sure.

    Looking at the drawing in the OP, I can see where the design must have been improved with the screw moved from the side of the spine to the end as these are commonly seen. It would seem the blade could then be secured much tighter in the frame more easily.

    Sorry to post on such an old thread, but thought I'd compile my newest razor here (http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ml#post1156747). I think I got the dating too early compared to these - I think mine is newer than early 1800s, which is what I thought at first. It's stamped '5' on the blade and the tail, and it also has a hole near the top of the spine for the safety guard, which I unfortunately don't have. I'm thinking it may have come in a small set as well originally.
