This is the video I used to master straight shaving. I have watched it literally hundreds of times and the way I do it is based on it. My favorite shaving video by far.

I don't always shave but when I do I prefer to leave my shirt off... stay shirtless my friends

I like the sponge idea and may use that, I probably should stretch more but at only 2 mos. in I'm just trying to avoid too much blood loss and still get a nice shave.
always shirtless, always been kind of messy shaving
