    Retraction. I finally saw a rolled edge under a microscope. Here it is.

    Take a look at the edge with magnification, looking straight down.

    If you see shiny reflections as you move the edge across the loupe you have chipped or broken the edge.

    Stropping with too much pressure, lifting the spine or striking the edge at the flip are common causes.
    Most probably too much pressure.

    If it is small enough you might be able to strop it out with linen and leather and or a pasted strop. Look at it first.
