Thanked: 6What are your friends/familys reaction to you shaving w/straight rzrs
Sorry for the long title for this post. It's kind of funny how shocked people are when you tell them you intend to actually use the razors in your collection. Most have been positive in my case. The usual comments are "wow! that's awesome!" or "I didn't know you could still get them". On occasion I hear something like "that's stupid!", but that comment came from a man I later found out to be a trailer trash racist drunk (I'm not joking). I understand the shock from younger people, but some of the people I interact with are older men & women in their 50's & 60's, from flea markets and antique stores I frequent. I didn't see my first real straight razor until my 20's, and can't understand how someone who grew up watching "dad" use a straight razor never used one themselves. But anyway, that's enough of my rambling. What do the people in your lives think about your razor addiction?

Thanked: 2A good buddy of mine thinks...oh, it's just a fad. Now he's realizing there's no turning back for me. The wife loves the bss, great smelling creams&aftershaves. Coworkers@firestation think I'm semi-crazy.

My mom thought it was cool, dad told me I would hate it and nick myself all the time. My wife likes it. Co-workers think I'm silly, except for the one who just bought a dovo because of me. Lol

I have been shaving with a straight for over 4 years.... And have not got one single person to come to the DARK SIDE....go figure.

The basic reaction I've gotten is "I'd cut my head off if I tried that". I have gotten one co-worker converted to DE shaving, but can't get anyone to pickup a straight.

My male friends are completely indifferent every time I mention something about wet shaving.
My female friends usually make positive comments and my girlfriend likes it a lot.
The exact opposite from what I was expecting.

Thanked: 734I really don't bother to discuss it very much unless the topic comes up on its own in conversation. I did convert two friends to DE shaving after hearing them complain about how poorly their shaves were and how miserable their experiences were. They know I use a straight and one has seen them. He thinks some of them are really beautiful blades but has no interest in using one. My wife HATES the fact that this has become a hobby of mine.

My wife likes it (which is all I care about), and friends are split between: "you're kidding; that sounds dangerous" and "that's cool". Frankly, I enjoy it, and if my wife likes the results, that's all I care about.
She, by the way, does hate Bay Rum after shave (which I now use only when I'm traveling).
