I guess I am strange enough that noone who knows me thinks it odd for me to do this. I have converted a few guys to wet shaving and straights including my brother, who will be getting a gift for his 53rd birthday.

My wife loves it, my little boy thinks it's cool, I guess that's all that matters to me. Don't really care what others think.*
*except you guys here on SRP.Last edited by ReardenSteel; 09-23-2013 at 04:43 AM.

Thanked: 31My wife likes to sneek a watch, my son's first shave was with a straight, he is now 18 and will still use it when he shave (still a patchy beard, think SHAGGY). Coworkers? They feel it's to dangerous. I'm still workin on 'em.

Thanked: 270If my parents were still around, they would have tried to talk me out of it, particularly after my bloody learning efforts. Dad used an electric and Mom told me about the time his went on the Fritz and he had to use my multiblade razor. He had real sensitive skin and was cutting himself up and cussing. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that!

When I started SR shaving last year my wife checked up on me often because she was afraid that I would slice my neck. Nowadays she just finds it funny that I shave the "old man's" way.
My little boys are curious about it. I don't let them touch the SR blade, but I let them pretend shave with a DE w/o a blade in it.
My cousin thinks its cool, and wanted to try it, but chickened out. I at least got him into wet shaving with a DE.
My coworkers think I'm living the dangerous life by using a "cutthroat" razor. I remember when I told most of them. Were starting a meeting attended by a few VPs, senior personnel, and young engineers; the meeting was to promote the company's young engineers group. We started off by introducing each other and saying something "interesting" about ourselves. Most people talked about their hobbies. When it got to me, I said that I recently started shaving with a cutthroat razor. You should've seen the scared faces and heard the "eww"s and "ouch"s from everyone there. You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

My latest acquisition from E-Bay was from a guy who'd bought a beautiful DOVO Bismarck, the one with the faux MOP inlay, and a 21" x 3" strop from SRD. In emailing, he told me he only used it once and that it was too frightening an experience!!
New DOVO's are almost impossible to find for the last several months, let alone the one with the inlay, and a new strop to boot? So I got the whole deal for basically for the razor and strop, and they arrived brand new, for a 1/3rd off if I bought new. Guy said the razor was even, "sharpened" when he got it...and it arrived absolutely shave ready.
So in this case, fear was good (for me). I mentioned to him it takes time to learn, that at one time everyone shaved like this, but nope, he was going to use the money from the sale to buy a Braun Series 7 electric shaver.
So everybody's happy!!

My friends don't find it too strange but then again my friends are pretty strange.
