Thanked: 6Whenever people around my parents age see my strop hanging in the bathroom, the first thing I hear from them is usually bad memories of being "whooped" with them.

There is something about a shiny sharp straight blade that causes the human body to prepare to "DUMP LOAD." My friends just acknowledge that I am weird and let it go at that!

I have been talking about starting to shave with a straight for while now, and have been researching and gathering information. My wife just shrugs and the rest of my family thinks I am odd regardless lol

Thanked: 20My wife didnt seem suprised when I told her that I had started using a straight. But then again we have all agree I was born in the wrong century maybe even the wrong millennia with some of the hobies I get into . Havent brought it up with my folks but knowing my mom she would find it cool my dad would more then likely be indiffrent. Dont know how my kids would react but will find out soon enough when I get home.

My wife almost was expecting it since we were both born 200 years too late for things that seem to interests us. My doctor painstakingly explained the artery situation and how I might accidentally kill myself if I didn't pay attention. My employees got concerned. My boss decided I was too close to retirement to be pondering my sanity (and being 800 miles away probably helped). My teenaged son is uninterested but my 8 year old son has a dulled straight I gave him and he practices shaving with me (lather and all) when I shave on weekends. Daughter thinks it "cool". Neighbors are a mixed lot from curious to excited whispers with my wife about the safety of it (comes with the political leanings of folks here near Boulder I guess - nanny state and all that). And for some reason my dog gives all things straight razor a very wide berth - he quickly leaves the 2nd floor of the house whenever it looks like I might shave - that might be a smart move on his part since I don't like him much...
