My step father has a collection of straight razors that i dare say would rival some of the top collectors here. That being said when i asked to use a blade and strop he quickly said how bad of an idea it was and suggested an electric... I'm rather hard headed once I've got an idea in my head. Most have been kind of standoff'ish not wanting to discuss. My wife is behind me on it. I guess that's all i really need seeing how much this could end up costing

Is your step father just a collector, or does he shave with them also? I would have been insulted with the electric comment.
Someone asked me the other day if a straight was faster and I laughed. It's not faster than a cartridge or electric but it sure as he'll is a lot more fun.

Just a collector... He went razor crazy for several years... He's 66 so I'm sure he watched his father use one. I spend way more time shaving now and look forward to it. Still pretty new at it, but slowly learning my technique...

Treat him nice and maybe you'll get left the lot in his Will. Just make sure it's in the Will before you start to lace his whiskey's with rat poison .

I've been told the same thing by more than one person... aside from flying highly advanced aircraft that is, the juxtaposition of which could make certain things like SR shaving appear that much more eccentric I guess

I think most of us here can claim to have been born in the wrong century, or at least feel like we have been...May we weren't though and time has just moved on from the last time we were here .

When I first started family and friends didn't pay much attention. It wasn't until I started restoring old blades that caught their eye. Now, I have gotten about 6 people on board shaving with a straight razor and I restore about one razor a week. I have really enjoyed it and friends and family both recognize it as a hobby.
