Thanked: 0If it comes up in conversation most people think it's pretty cool. Two brothers use DE razors and another uses the fanciest most blades possible Gillette. One of the brothers who uses DEs visited recently and saw my razor and gear and now is thinking of making the switch. The Gillette using brother thinks we're all crazy. Our father doesn't enter the discussion - he has had a full beard for nearly 20 years.
The best reaction so far was that of my thesis adviser. In his introduction of me at the start of my defense this past June after listing my academic credentials and mentioning the languages I speak he then added that I give myself my own haircuts and shave with a straight razor. The room erupted with laughter.
Maybe I should list SR shaving under special skills on my CV.

This morning, I told my 12-year-old to check out my smooth shave. He knows to feel for the trouble spots, and went right for my throat and under the chin. Then he said,
"Wow! I guess that 8 hours you spent yesterday reading about shaving on the Internet really paid off!"
He's onto us, boys.Keep your pivot dry!

Thanked: 1195Some of these stories reminded me of a comment I heard back when I was new....
My brother-in-law and his wife were over at my place and I was showing off my two straight razors (or however many I owned at the time) and it seems to me she was more interested than he was. I was explaining the process of the multipass shave aka beard reduction and they both looked bewildered. And then she asked "So.... you're saying you end up shaving 3 times????"
I nodded and replied, "Yeah, pretty much"

Thanked: 1195No, he seemed thoroughly disinterested back then and I gave up - you can lead a horse to the water....I'm sure you know the rest. He's all about the modern gadgets anyway, and IF he gives any thought whatsoever to shaving (which I doubt) I'm sure he's very satisfied with his Gillette Ultra Turbo Vibrating Mach 15 and can of foamy gel. His loss....

Most guy friends/coworkers think I'm nuts. They will ask every year or two, you still shaving with a straight razor? My wife likes the results, but also tells others - "Oh yeah, he got into this to save money on razor blades and now he has thousands of dollars worth of shaving equipment. Some savings
I have got my 18 year old son using a straight for past year or so and have gotten a couple friends to try DE, but no other converts to str8 - yet!
