I think all the "oh my God!" reactions, especially from 'men', is just a sad commentary on the decline of manhood and the loss of the idea that life can sometimes be risky and that a man profits by overcoming obstacles and challenges. Today's beta-males and girly men who were raised to be wimps who could never make a fist have, sadly, become the norm. More and more, public schools treat masculinity as something that needs to be punished, ostracized, and eliminated. I see these ridiculuous home security system commercials where the scary crook in the hoody kicks in the door and the girly 'man' hides behind his wife instead of acting like a man with something to defend. It's pathetic.

Well, the truth is men have been sold a bill of goods. I began with a DE many years ago, then tried every "innovation/improvement" up until I started with a SR again. Once I did, I bought a DE and some decent blades for my "I'm in a hurry" shave. And what did I discover? In fact it was that I get a better shave with a DE than I ever have with any of the other product lines over the years. So, I wish I still had my Gillette adjustable DE which I threw out when I went to injector, Trac II and 2 or 3 iterations of cartridges. Life is funny sometimes.
Merry Christmas!

Thanked: 0My dad is pretty much couldn't care less about me using a straight razor. My cousin thinks it's pretty cool and might even give it a try himself. My fiancee however HATES it.

Many family members, including the wife, give me this pity look- like a man who just lost his marbles. My wife further thinks I belong to the 1800s because I also got into fountain pens, antique watches, pipe smoking, piano and riding horses. She's now more than anything annoyed because I'm developing more eccentricities and hobbies.
I don't have many friends. But the 3-4 I do, believe it or not one after the other, now got their badgers and DEs and contemplating a SR WIN lol

Unfortunately some think I'm weird and mock me. Some doesn't care.

My boss thinks it's interesting, my wife buys me aftershaves and soap bowls, and my dad got me a very nice 3" English bridle leather strop. Everybody else thinks it's weird.

Haven't really paid attention, nor "sprung" it on too many strangers. My friends and family know to never be surprised by my oddities/pursuits.
Have one pal who DE shaves and another considering SR's, as he inherited two and multi-bladers give him bumps. I'm trying to make sure he "eases" into it.
