In which lexicon is the word "debonair" still in circulation? Incredible.

I believe it is a personal choice., not to look cool.
For me personally I look at it as an art and skill that the majority will not or are scared to learn.
Holding a blade like that to your skin and throat with out all the modern safety features to save those without common sense or good judgement from doing damage is exciting.
I like the nostalgia but mostly I am learning it because shaving for me has always been a chore. I have thick course hair that grows fast, so if I can make shaving something enjoyable and also something I look forward to it will be done regularly with enthusiasm and satisfaction, almost ritualistic.
I had my first professional barber shave the other day and my girlfriend loved how smooth it was instead of the sand paper it can be.
If I can get the skill level to replicate that shave regularly I would be proud of that skill.
    That's my enjoyment, mastering it.

I wouldn't know classy if it hit me in the face BUT (and I can't believe no one has said this already), it makes you a whole lot more interesting!

Interesting is a component of classy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise .

I shave this way because it is a art. In our modern throw away world we have lost alot of the arts and knowledge of how things was done. For example you ask most kids where milk and eggs comes from, they will tell you from the store. Maybe I'm old fashion we need to know where we came from to know where we are going!! As for class I think it comes from the heart of the man. IMO.

I think it is classy, but thats not why I do it, and nobody sees me shave anyway.

I started straight shaving just to try it out, and found I really liked it and quickly developed RAD. One of my friend's wife asked me recently why I choose straight shaving now and what I enjoy about it. I came up with an analogy which I personally find quite fitting...

One can have a cup of tea by dropping a tea bag in a mug and adding hot water, or one can ritualise the process as some asian cultures do. Its not about hurrying, but instead taking one's time, appreciating each and every step and making it an event, and in both cases the experience and end result is better. I find it meditative almost, to block out the outside world and focus on the one task at hand, rather than multi-tasking as is done with most other parts of one's life. Shaving is a time for me, my blade, my brush and my soap only... everything else can wait... which I really like.

Hopefully if I do settle down with a nice lady, she will also find it classy or masculine, will be easier to justify additional shaving based purchases to her that way
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

You could put me in a Silver Ghost dressed to the 9's top hat and all and it would be like putting lipstick on a pig.

Might make some guys classy or debonair but not this one.... and that is fine by me.

If you're the same swine I met in Asheville you were NOT wearing lipstick. In all sincerity... it would have made a difference.

Not so sure about classy but my wife loves the feel of my face after a shave. In fact, she looks forward to it. I will say that it is my male friends who find it more classy -- if not just plain out right scary -- that I shave with a straight razor. And a couple have shown genuine interest in SR shaving -- and not because they think it is classy. They just like the idea of being so retro.
