I wait for the right moment
I have a few dozen razors that I can't wait to shave with but it'll take me forever to get through all of them. When there's a particular razor I want to use I wait for the right moment and the right beard growth to use it. I'm sure some of you guys can relate, right?

I usually cannot wait past a 2 day growth!

Thanked: 1195I used to have a set rotation but gave that up a few years ago. It seemed to regimented to me. I have a good idea of what I haven't used for a while and that usually guides me, but sometimes you're just jonesin' for that one particular razor lol.
That being said, I used to save the heavy grinds for long growth days but nowadays I use whatever. Perfect example: yesterday I mowed down a week old beard with a small Boker extra hollow and got a great shave - you don't see many guys bragging about that around here

I have about 12 razors ready to shave, but there are three or four that I hardly ever use. These are mainly my round points, because I find it easier to work with a spike point.
As for "the right beard", I'm with Ryan here. A full hollow can cut a long whiskers as well as a heavier grind, given that the it is sharp. It's about the very edge being forced between the cuticles of your facial hairs. This can be done with a full hollow at least as well as (if not better than) with a near wedge.

I have probably 3 distinct groups. One is razors I never use and are in storage pretty much. Then a group in semi storage which I now and then use when I get the urge and then my group that I use all the time. From those I pretty much use what I feel like using.

I don't have a strict rotation. I have a few that are my favorites and a few that don't get used too often. My full hollows mow just as good as my wedges. The most important thing to remember is make sure that you are enjoying your shaves.

That pretty much sums up my routine as well.
Still marvel at how these two Wilkinson Pall Mall extra-hollow 4/8th razors I have are like sports cars...they move fast, give great feedback, and have never disappointed.
Mind you, the other day, had my first shave with a properly honed wedge (thanks Glen) using my DD Satin Wedge, and while it was a completely different beast, way out of what I'm used to, it gave a great shave. Very quiet blade...going to use that one more to decide if I like the wedges.

Phrank, I have a Spike Wedge and a Carl Monkhouse Wedge and can't wait for them to come up in my rotation. Wedges and full hollows are my two favorite grinds. Go figure, both ends of the spectrum. Yes, a wedge is quiet but if you listen closely it is singing basso profundo while the extra hollow are singing soprano and sometimes counter tenor its so pure a sound. Enjoy the wedge!

Thanks Razorfeld! When I received my W&B wedge, which said it was shave ready, it wasn't, suffered my first good cut. Then I received the DD Satin Wedge from here, again, another disaster.
So, when I received the razor back from Glen, it was with some trepidation that I used it. Performed really nice...as I mentioned, think I'll have to try it a few more times to get to understand the blade, but your comment is reassuring that it will turn out to be a great blade.
Thanks!
